my very active almost 8 month old is getting really interested in climbing. he now can climb onto the sofa, tries to use the book case to get onto the coffee table. tries to climb the book case. he also is starting to do a lot of cruising but he is much more interested in climbing than cruising or walking. anyone else with a little monkey? how do you deal with climbing and safety?

I have no idea but if you figure it out let me know! My dd was just like your LO at that age. Now she's 11 mos old and it's gotten even worse. She actually ENJOYS diving off of our couch (face first!!). She's always covered in bumps and bruises. We pad everything we can as much as possible. We block off things as much as possible. Still, sometimes we blink, and we are too late to find her diving off some table or stack of toys she has configured.

yeah, mine climbs on everything. we make sure to go to the park at least once a day, sometimes twice just to get some of the climbing and wiggles out!

My DS likes to open the dishwasher and climb on top of the door and sit on it We don't have much here that he can climb on, but before we moved he would climb inside the entertainment center to play with things. We just try to make things safe and supervise his adventures so he doesn't get hurt.

add dd to the list of battle scarred, climbing 8 month olds.

I try to encourage safe things to climb on like mama/daddy, piles of pillows or the futon. It works maybe. . . .30% of the time
