I'm finishing up ordering my stash, and I was wondering what you more experienced mamas think.

Diapers:
24 Kissaluv 0 (seconds)
12 infant prefolds

And am about to order (but haven't yet, so speak up!)

Covers:
5 prowraps, newborn size
4 BSWW, newborn
1 Bumpy newborn night cover
Maybe a Polar Babies cover--depends on if i find out if their good for night time or not.

Misc:
42 wipes
4 kissaluv soakers
2 snappis
1 pail liner
1 Bummis tote bag

***
Any suggestions? The only thing I have officially ordered are the kissaluvs, so feel free to be honest--I can easily change!
Thanks!!!

For a newborn, I would just stick with the pro-wraps or Bummis at night. They are changed frequently so breathability is not so much an issue as when they start sleeping through the night.

When your baby starts sleeping through, I would go with wool for nightime. Here are the wool covers I've tried:

Liz's Cloth Good quality and adjustability, soft, very roomy. Great with pre-folds.

Stacinator Wool Good quality and adjustability, soft, very trim. Great with pre-folds.

Sugarpeas Good quality and adjustability, soft, very trim. Not roomy enough for CPF's IMO, best with fitteds.

Wool soakers - great when snappi'd pre-fold. The one I tried is Tiny something (can't remember the name :doh ). Jenny Adopt China makes them. Adorable, high quality. SOFT!

Wool is the only cover at night that I like so I won't make any other recommendations. I can say that Fleece tends to sweat with my dd at night, but she is a heavy wetter.

You sound very ready! Congratulations!

Honestly since anyhow you will be changing your newborn in the middle of the night( : darn poo... :LOL) i think you will be fine with your proraps...Bummis some ppl swear by them...I DONT...they wicked terribly for us through every time...with newborn babies i think the best covers are proraps...and the amount you had planned is perfect...IMHO

I think what you have is perfect! I absolutely LOVED the Kissaluvs. I only wished I had gotten 24! Maybe next time

The only thing I can possibly think of is the number of pail liners. I really like having 2 of them so that I don't have to wait for the single liner to dry before needing to put the next wet diaper in (this is assuming that the bummis tote is not the large or xlarge pail liner size).

Regarding covers, I didn't like the BSWW as much because they retained smells (like after only one or two uses). So I would buy less BSWW and more proraps (or another type of cover).

If money is not a huge consideration, have you considered biobottoms? I really loved the cotton/poly biobottoms I had. It had great full coverage over a snappi'ed prefold (meaning I didn't have to spend the the extra seconds to make sure the prefold was tucked insider the cover) and it never leaked for us day or night.

Anyway, good luck!!

I would suggest having some size smalls on hand too. I think some of our newborn diapers didn't work well with a newborn cover so we had to use a small. and ya never know how big the baby will be. Just my 2 cents.
Debi

Good ideas on the small covers--I added 5 small covers, a combo of BSWW and prowraps.

And thanks for the tip on night time with a newborn--very helpful.

I am going crazy with the money. I ordered 2 Bravado nursing bras, a lot of California Baby bubble bath, etc.

Since I just did this I'll give you my 2 cents.........I love the kissaluvs size 0, really fit well under a Bummis SWW. The prefolds were too bulky for me, and I had infant size, but I think they were premium. I did not use snappis or pins, just folded in thirds and laid in wrap, so maybe that was my problem. I also had some Little Lambs newborn diapers. They are very cute, but run very small. Used them for about 1 week. Our favorites (and I know you hate to hear this) are my Righteous Baby sets. At night I put her in a wool wrap with a FLAG diaper. She wakes up dry every morning! Good luck getting your hands on a set, but the FLAG diapers are easy to get in size 1 and well worth the money. I also love my sugar peas fitteds and snap-ins with windpro covers. We also use a few pocket diapers from www.sweetiebums.com They fit a small baby very well and are so soft. They leaked a bit at the legs until my baby's thighs chunked up a bit, but still highly reccomend.

I would think that 24 Kissaluvs and 12 prefolds would definately be enough to get you through the infant phase. Maybe splurge on a sugarpeas fitted or a RB FLAG (or two) for night. I don't know of any wool covers that are readily available that would be good for a newborn...sorry.

Just in case... www.righteousbaby.com www.sugarpeas.com

I agree that you can totally use the proraps or SIWW for nighttime with a newborn...with those poopies you will be changing anyway LOL!

I have heard (though I have no first hand experience) that Proraps don't work well with Kissaluvs...not enough coverage I think. They do work wonderfully with prefolds though....

What about getting a few Motherease Airflows...those things cover everything LOL. They have a covers only package on their packages page....$35 for 4...might be worth looking into.

I never got to use my Kissaluvs because by the time they got here DS had outgrown them (he was nearly 10 pounds at birth and 14 pounds by 3 weeks)...they were darn cute though!

Edited to correct spelling...and also to say that I really liked both my proraps and my Bummis SIWW prints. I do think the Bummis might work better with the Kissaluvs though because they are wider through the bottom. Both work wonderfully for prefolds.
