AAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Friends came over and helped us destroy our bathroom yesterday. And that was lovely.

But we all ran out of time and didn't get to grouting, caulking, or painting it. DH is sick and can't handle the smells, so I'm doing it today. Or trying.

Sometime yesterday the ceramic soap dish came off the wall. Don't know why. I imagine it was an accident. But I can't start grouting until I get it back on. I can't get it back on until I get the old adhesive off the back.

And I can't get the old adhesive off the back. Soaked it. Scraped it. Chiseled it. It's not happening.

Went to Home Depot (for the 6th time in two days) and got the closest replacement I could in terms of size and color. Not exact, but it had a chance of working. It's a fraction of a hair too big to fit the space.

So I need to either take a tile off and cut it (anyone know how to do that?), drive around and find a different replacement soap dish, or try to put the old one back on even with an uneven surface on the back and hope the adhesive takes.

I just want to start grouting. This NEEDS to get done today.

A pox on J.G., the former owner, who thought she was a DIY queen and did everything on the cheap and in nonstandard sizes, and screwed most of it up anyway.

AAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I feel a little better.

Wow, sounds like you have a lot to deal with today. Im scared to start our bathroom project now. Have you tried to sand the stuff off the back of the holder? Im not sure what material you have on there, but Im guessing its sorta like plaster, or grout? I hope you fall into a groove and things go good today!

Oh yea, AHHHHHH!!! We are going out of state on Tuesday and I need to spend all day packing today, but, here I sit...

It's about 1/4 inch of adhesive gunk on the back and that stuff just doesn't want to come off. DH even soaked it in vinegar and then peroxide bleach overnight, thinking that might loosen it up. Nope.

I went for option 4 -- buying a new tile and a cutter and just taking the old tile off, figuring I'd probably not be able to get the gunk off the abck of that one, either, to reattach it after cutting. About to give that a shot -- wish me luck!

(The return lady at Home Depot has seen me 7 times now this weekend. I promised her coffee the next time I'm in -- light and sweet! )

Been there, done that. We now call bad remodels an "edwards" job in recognition to the previous owner of that house.

I don't envy you. that sounds very frustrating.

I need to scream myself. Oddly enough, I am writing a paper on Edvard Munch's The Scream. I hate parenthetical citation. I just want this to be finished.
