I'm curious if any mamas on here tested negative for awhile, even though they were pregnant. (I'm talking after the traditional 2 weeks past ovulation.)

I've seen a few stories floating around on the net, but am curious if this is common or not....

I tested negative twice on the OTC pregnancy tests and I'm now almost 36 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I took the tests at different times as well. We weren't trying and I was on birth control but I wasn't getting my period so we were trying to rule out options. According to the gestational age I really should have tested positive on at least one of those tests. I think my body in combination with the hormonal BC probaly affected my pregnancy hormone reading from my body to the tests - if that makes any sense.

So it happened to me, don't know how it works with other people - guess our baby just really wanted to be had:!

I didn't get a positive until I was 9 or 10 days late with my first. The other ones took a couple of days too, but 9 days is my record. I took tests every couple of days and kept track of my (very regular) cycle, so I'm pretty sure I have something wonky with my hormones.

OTC tests the level of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin -- baby growth hormone). Not estrogen, progesterone, or any of the other hormones delivered by oral birth control.

That being said, hCG levels can be all over the place. My first test was negative, second test was positive. I don't recall exactly but those were almost definitely within 2 weeks after ovulation (which happened on day 22 of my cycle, ha ha ha).

Are you sure of your ovulation date?

With my 3rd baby I didn't get a positive test until cd 63. So a month after my missed period is when I got the positive. I was testing every 3 days with different tests. I about went crazy durring that month.

I didn't get a positive until I was 12 weeks. I was already starting to show by the time I got in with my midwife. I took home tests galore, had a couple of ultrasounds which showed nothing (I guess it was too early to show up?) and actually had two blood tests about a week apart, both negative. (I wouldn't have taken so many tests except that I had something else going on which called for the second blood test/ultrasound.) The hospital actually told me I wasn't pregnant and it was just my hormones all of a sudden going wonky from breastfeeding my dd! Anyway, while I was going through this, there was another woman on here who was convinced she was pregnant but couldn't get a positive. I guess some women just produce a type of hormone that is not very detectable. My instincts told me that I was pregnant and I was right all along.
