My DS is 5 months old and incredibly grumpy. He just grumps. He does not make those cute cooing sounds but every once in a while mostly they are grunts with a grumpy face and groans. He seems terribly unhappy or frustrated and I don't know what to do anymore. I sit with him and read to him, I nurse him and play and the only time he is happy is with me holding him walking around. Is this normal? Could he be in pain or something? Are there early warning signs of Autism? I feel like a really bad mom now. I don't know what else to do -Are some babies just not happy? I just want him happy!!
Oh! He does smile and laugh at me at times and he is nursed.
Thanks for leting me vent.

Maybe your My DS just likes those sounds? My DS made a lot of noises like that when he was little...not so much with the high-pitched cutesey noises, not until he was an older baby. He sounded like he was saying "uh-uh" (as in "no") a lot of the time, so it did have a sort of negative sound to it from an adult perspective. But I imagine it was just a noise to make to him. He's 17 months now, and is a reasonably happy, well-adjusted toddler.

Ds did the grunty thing too. It was as if he was obsessed with making those sounds. Then he discovered new ones and he is way more smiley than he's ever been. I remember thinking and worrying I had an unhappy baby.

My lo seemed to never be happy until he hit 6 months. Now he smiles, but he doesn't laugh a lot like other babies seem to. I think it's just his personality; he's a serious baby
