I'm looking for an AP-friendly pediatrician on the Eastside. I like Pediatric Associates because their Bellevue office has Sat. and Sun appointments. I've had bad experiences with the docs at the Factoria clinic (one gave me a handout saying that by 2 months of age my child should be sleeping in its own room, but if we HAD TO HAVE the crib in the bedroom to put a screen or other physical barrier between it and the bed - since she didn't discuss this with me I couldn't tell her that we have a very happy family bed - thank you very much). I prefer the Bellevue, Factoria, Pine Lake, or Totem Lake locations.

BTW - the doctor was Dr. Kulpa. Also, everytime I mentioned something AP related to Dr. Lampe she said. "Oh, I've never heard of that before" and looked at me like I had just sprouted a third ear out the top of my head!

Thanks for your help!

i have not had very good experiences w/ped assoc at the sammamish or pine lake offices. dr tracie o'neill at pine lake is great, but she isn't taking new patients. we left her b/c it is impossible to get a sick visit appt. with her. she warned me to stay away from the other docs in the practice as they are too mainstream for our decisions. we have since found a great family practitioner in issaquah. she is a one woman show, very ap and np friendly, but no weekends.

I had a HORRIBLE AWFUL experience with Dr. Fang at the Totem Lake office!! We took my newborn in for her first checkup when she was 5 days old. My 2 year old (at the time) dd had gotten a rotten flu the day after her sister was born and had a temp and was throwing up- and then my dh and I both got it ( I had never been so sick in my life, really awful to give birth then get sick!) ).
Anyway, we went in, waited over an hour to be seen, she comes in, doesn't ask about any part of the birth, etc., or apologise for her tardiness. She finds out that we were sick and chatises us for not wearing masks and basically for exposing a little one to all the illness. Then she walks out for a phone call which takes several minutes, comes back only to say that if our newborn dd has any symptoms she will have to do several tests including a SPINAL TAP and then leaves, no time for questions, nothing!
I am doing all I can not to cry, my dh is shaking he is so furious, and on top of that we all feel pretty crappy.
It was so horrible
I would NEVER EVER go back to that group AGAIN!

My doc is Dr. Sandra Beaulieu at the Bellevue Ped Assoc office. While she's not personally into AP (well, she has no kids so who knows what she'll do) she is aware that things like sleeping choices and EBF are cultural choices and doesn't give me a hard time about it as long as *I'm* happy. She does ask about what's going on though, if you want a Dr. who just stick to medical stuff, that's not her.

HTH. If you want more info reply to this and we can chat about it.

Carrots, I'm so sorry you had a bad experience--we've been going to see Dr. Parrish at the Totem Lake office for over 8 years, and she's been wonderful. She is thrilled that we EBF. family bed, no media, no junk food, etc. Checkups contain the question "are we doing any vaccinations today?" rather than presenting us with a list. And when we decided to do polio many years ago, she ordered up the killed virus one instead of pushing the live one (the live used to be the standard).

She was the one who put us on this alternate path actually, when she suggested echinacea instead of another round of antibiotics for my then-infant DS#1.

That said, I do avoid the others in her office, since they're so entrenched in the mainstream.

We have been seeing an ap friendly doc NOT in that group, but in Redmond. Her name is Cynthia Keller. She seems open to our AP stuff and told me she personally follows some AP practices. (Hmm. was it co sleeping? EBF? Can't remember.)

She was recommended by a LLL leader, and tho we've only seen her once, I got a really good vibe.

xo pam

We have been very happy with Donna Zimburean at Totem Lake Ped Assoc.

She has always stayed and talked with us for heaps of time, answering all questions, and looking up homeopathic info for us.

She has never questioned our co-sleeping, no-vax and herbal choices for the twins. She is also an expert regarding breast health and helped us through some latching issues.

I'm not sure about the rest of the office, and sometimes the front desk helpers can be ditzy ~ but overall it has been a good choice.

And I am VERY picky.

Carrots, so sorry to hear that you went through that. Been wondering how you are since I am rarely in PSBC these days.

I adore our pediatrician. Dr. Chattra at the Redmond office. Super respectful. Great with kids and adults. And the rude nurse has been replaced by two new nice ones! They recently added on to their office so there is more space in the waiting room.

And the only things they "push" are reading and car seats.
