We are from St. Louis and spending a few days in Chicago. Can anybody tell me of any stores in the Chicago Area (suburbs) that carry slings and other AP stuff, a good store to by wooden toys, or anywhere that has cloth diapers.

I'd like to know, too!
Actually, we spend time with relatives near St. Louis so I'd like to know of any stores there, too. Thanks!

Hmm, Not sure where to get Cd, as I've gotten those online mostly. However, there is a store called Red Wagon In River Forest IL that has some nice baby stuff on one side and natural toys on the other, there is also a brand new store in Oak Park called Gepettos Toy Box, which I know carries HABA toys and playsilks.(owned by an Ap mama to boot!). There is also a lovely Little Toy Store in the Andersonville neigborhood of Chicago (blanking the name right now, but they have great stuff!).

I'd love this scoop too. I live halfway inbetween Chicago and St. Louis (in Normal) and get to both occasionally ... so I'll be watching for tips for both places.

I was actually just in St. Louis over the weekend and discovered "Kangaroo Kids," a resale kids clothing store that also sells/makes their own slings (ring slings, similar to Maya Wrap). The guy working there was a dad of two little ones and so very nice.
Also, "City Sprouts" in University City sells Peanut Shell slings and some natural toys, including HABA.

We also stopped at Whole Foods and stocked up on Earth's Best baby food. On sale, plus 5% extra discount if you purchase 24 or more jars.

But, anyway ... this was supposed to be about Chicago ... not trying to hijack the thread.

We are already big fans of Cotton Babies and Kangaroo kids but always like to see new stuff, especially natural toys.

Simplify, don't feel dumb at all. HABA is just a brand of toy. They are German, natural toys -- wood, cloth, nontoxic dyes, etc. I am a big fan of them. Henry loves their wooden teethers and grabbing toys. Here's their website: www.haba.de. One online store that sells a lot of HABA is www.oompa.com. HTH.
There is a new store opening sometime this spring called Be By Baby on Roscoe near the Lakeview Wholefoods, but maybe not in time for your trip. They will have slings, cloth diapers, (toys I think). As for toys for now, Building blocks on Lincoln in the same area as above is nice and my favorite is in Lincoln Square called timeless toys (very big with lots of nice stuff) silks, waldorf dolls, etc. etc. etc. Have fun
For those of you traveling between St. Louis and Chicago (or located inbetween, like me) ... here in Bloomington-Normal, we are lucky to have a cloth diaper store. It is a WAHM who has an e-commerce site (www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com). She operates a showroom out of her home where you can see, touch, and try the different products. We are getting ready to switch our 9 month old to cloth and we just visited her showroom yesterday. She gave us a great introduction to cloth products and it was wonderful to be able to try sizes, rather than guessing what to order online.

Any other suggestions for shopping in central IL?

By the way, Michael ... I checked out your blog ... very nice! Atom is adorable!
