We are moving back to Tallahassee this summer. DH is going back to FSU (we both did undergrad there) to get his PhD in Chemistry. I am going to be staying home full time with our girls and I am interested in finding an AP group/play group. Does tallahassee have anything like that?

We have a 3.5 year old and a baby who will be 14-15 months when we move.

there is an API group that meets at Best Beginnings.

There are also several LLL meetings around town, the one I go to is in the evening (I am a WOHM) but there are lots of SAHM who are AP minded going there.
http://www.lllflorida.com/web/BigBendFL.html

Unfortunately I no longer have a nursling. I was working out of the home from the time my 2007 baby was 3 months until she was 8 months. I couldn't keep up my supply while working. I was a teacher and only had one time a day to pump and I was gone from 6:45 until 4:45 almost every day. I had lower supply to begin with and it had gone completely by the end of septmeber. I was very sad. I am no longer working but not for that reason, it just wasn't a good situation all around.

So LLL isn't really what I am looking for now. I will be interested in going back to LLL in a couple years as we are thinking of TTC #3 in the spring/summer of 2009. I might check out the API group though.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've seen your posts around here and the VBAC board. I really want to wish you good luck! I was not able to have a VBAC with my 2nd baby. I had GD and when I went in for my BPP at 40 weeks, I literally had no amniotic fluid left. Dr. Van Scriver (who is getting less supportive of VBACs it seems), her partner, my doula (longtime friend who is also a bradley instructor), and my monitrice (Sharon Schmidt, the CPM here in Jax) all thought that the c/s was the way to go.

So I really hope that you are successful! Where are you traveling for your VBAC? I'd like to have a VBA2C but I don't know if it is going to be possible. I have my GD history and now low to no AF history working against me plus it is like a 8 hr trip from Tally to the miami birth center which is the only place I really know that you are able to have one in the state. But I am going to cross that bridge when I get to it.

I am sorry to hear about your CBAC, that must have been difficult. We have a local chapter of ICAN here, which is another place for you to meet some AP moms. Our chapter leader just had a CBAC in December as well. I will keep you informed when we get our meetings started up again.

I have an idea for you about a doctor here in Tallahassee that may be open minded to a VBA2C, I will PM you the information. He has done it before, but he is very very nervous about lawsuits. I think he looks at it on a case by case basis. I also know that one person had a VBA2C in Panama City years ago, when the time comes I can see if I can get that name for you.

I am planning to travel to Pensacola at this point (although I just learned about an option in Gainesville). We are planning to TTC in May/June so I still have some time to come to my decision. I wanted to interview all the doctors in Tallahassee as well. I better get on that.

I am also sorry about your milk supply running out, I am a WOHM and I know how hard it is to fit pumping into your schedule and keep supply up.

Another thought on places to meet AP parents is Mamaandbabylove.org - it is a yoga studio run by one of the local doula/LMT/yoga instructors who teaches Itsy Bitsy yoga. A lot of fun.

I believe there is a lot of crunchy AP moms here, you just have to look for them.

Yay, another Tallahassee mama! I'm pregnant with my first, so I can't tell you anything about AP, but I jsut wanted to say welcome to Tallahassee! It's a great place to be - it's really pretty and laid-back. My husband's a grad student also (math), and now that I'm pregnant he's trying to finish that dissertation before the baby is born. Somehow I don't think that will happen...

Kristen thanks again for the info! I would be interested in attending (and even helping out with) ICAN meetings. I wish we had a group in Jax. I didn't feel up to starting one last year as I was pretty bitter about my CBAC. I was fairly certain I didn't want to even have more children. If I end up with a 3rd c/s it will be OK but not what I want and not how it should be.

Birdie - congrats on your pregnancy! I hope that your DH can finish up in time but I know how hard that is to accomplish.

I love Tallahassee and miss it very much although I love Jacksonville too. I am looking forward to moving back and seeing old friends and places, but I am also looking forward to meeting other Tallahassee moms. We moved away when I was 6 months pregnant with out first so I didn't really get to know that many moms!
