There are quite a few AP mammas here. Try checking out the Holistic Moms Network group, NINO or LLL -- you'll find some like-minded folks there, for sure.

My little girl is a toddler, but we have another one coming any day now :):impatience:
, so ours wouldn't be too far apart in age, either.

Do you keep your stock and ship from town? I would love to try on a few things now, since the sizing I did for the pouch I have currently was wrong, and it was too small for M when he was a newborn. I am 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, and M was 22 inches long and 10 pounds 5 ounces at birth, so the pouch we had was way too snug for cradle carry or nursing. I hate buying online since I like to play with the item before i commit to it.

I definitely want a better fitting sling for our theoretical second child.

ETA: New mommies, I found my fairly crunchy moms at the new moms group at Martha Jefferson's Anne Carey House--though other folks said the batch of moms around their kiddos' births were not crunchy. there is also supposed to be a play group at the UU church on Friday mornings that is pretty relaxed and crunchy. I personally found the folks at LLL to be not very friendly, but maybe it was just my own issues as a lesbian mommy projecting on them.I'm a WOHM momma now, so not getting out too much, and my boy is older--16 months.

If you want - you could always come to the monthly birth circle meeting with Birthmatters VA of C-ville..... it is the 3rd Monday of each month from 7-9pm - children in laps are welcome and there are usually 10-15 women there each week. All are fairly crunchy, most are breastfeeding, babywearing and even homebirthing.... there is never a specific topic or anything - and we've talked about everything and anything baby/pregnancy/new mom related.... it's a great place to meet other moms.

It is held at the UVA Child Development building on Millmont behing Barracks Rd. shopping center. If you come - the enterance is not throught the main door - but through the fence to the left of the main door. You don't need to bring anything with you - and it's free....

Hi Jodi,
I'll be there, too! I'm hoping that hearing some inspiring birth stories will convince this baby to come on out. I'm only 39 weeks 1 day, but I'm getting sooooooooooo impatient and uncomfortable and ready to meet this little one.

spedteacher30, thanks for your patience. I'm hoping to be significantly much less pregnant very soon!

Andrea, it looks like our little ones are only 2 weeks or so apart (your's is born on my birthday, actually
). I'd definitely be up for a get-together.

oh wow!!! How fun! I'm swamped the next 2 weeks, but have a good week off the first week of July! Maybe we can find somewhere to meet! :) and maybe I can see a Beco IRL

ETA: I just am now seeing that you're due any day now! Congrats! You can just let me know when/what you're up for! are you using Brynne and Darren for your birth? I'm just being nosey!

Does anyone belong to the Children's Museum - I know it doesn't get used as much during the summer - but it might be a nice break from the heat ;-)

LOL. Yes, I am using Brynne and Deren. (That is.. assuming I don't become the Amazing Woman Who Stays Pregnant Forever, which is how it is starting to feel.)

I love the Children's Museum. That would be a great place to meet up sometime. I'm such a weenie when it comes to hot weather, so good air conditioned play places are always a plus!

Kristen--

M was 10 days post due date, and it was during the time when some show was on cable about a woman who was pregnant for 43 years (the baby had died and calcified in her). As I lamented not having had him yet, folks would pipe up with, "Nobody's ever been pregnant forever. Just 43 years!"
yeah, real funny...

hope you have that baby soon! We haven't tried the Discovery Museum yet--though I used to take the kiddos I worked with at camp there. M's peanut allergy makes me a little leery of public playplaces where kids might smear their PB fingers. he does love the carousel out front, which I always check and wipe down before putting him on a horse.

Also, the sprinklers/water pad at Belmont Park is quite nice if you haven't been there. we had an issue with a pitbull being too close to the kids earlier in the week, but M had a blast and i steered him away from the dog. (we have two dogs ourselves, but this one was a little too snarly for a park with toddlers around).

43 years? Wow! And here I am complaining about making it all the way to 40 weeks. The worst part is that dd was almost 2 weeks late, so I really have no reason to expect this baby to come any time soon. I'm on my 3rd day of having pretty much non-stop contractions, but they just refuse to turn into actual labor. :p

I just went to Belmont park for the first time last week! I love it! It is so nice and shady, and the sprinklers did look like a lot of fun.

We have dogs, too, but I hate it when people bring non-friendly dogs around children. It's just such a risk!!

Hi there,

My husband, 11 week old daughter, and I are subletting a very sparse apartment near UVA hospital while he does a 4 week rotation there. I am hoping to meet other new mothers in the area & to learn more about Charlottesville. If all goes well, we will make a permanent move here from DC.

Kristen told me about this thread & I need to get out! These 4 bare walls are BORING!! Lemme know where and when!
