Hi! I'm a Santa Fe momma to a 19-month-old. I don't know that I label myself as AP, but we're a non-circumcising, cloth-diapering, sling-wearing, breast-feeding, organic-food eating, vinegar-and-baking-soda cleaning, public-transportation-taking (as much as possible) type family. Most Momma groups here are self-forming, but I have heard good things about the local Moms Club (momsclub.org). I'd be happy to share resources for family activities in Santa Fe, if you're interested.

I would love to hear advice. I have just moved to Santa Fe and don't know anyone yet. I don't really have time to do much but it would be nice to get in touch with a group that has similar views as I do. my children are 5, 3, and almost 2. I do most of the things you do...though you sound more "crunchy" then I am. I don't do public transportation...I am more of the strap them down as well as I can type.

Anyway, your advice and knowledge would be very helpful!!!

Santa Fe is decently family friendly, though not nearly like my midwest upraising. The libraries have some decent story hours, as does Borders downtown. Bicentennial pool (on Alto St) is wonderful for little ones - it's open for another week or two - and the Chavez Center on Rodeo is great all year long. There has been a pretty decent concert schedule this summer (on the Plaza) which is fun for families. The Children's Museum is wonderful, as is the Folk Art Museum. I think I mentioned Moms Club in my earlier post. They have at least two active groups here in Santa Fe. All of these activities should be helpful in meeting other moms. Oh, there's a very busy park where you are always sure to meet other moms that is on St. Francis and Alta Vista. It's nicknamed the "Train Park" as there is an old train engine in the park.

As I mentioned, most get-togethers are casual, and sometimes the best way to meet others is just to introduce yourself at the park, story hour, grocery store, etc. There are some great music programs, too. I'm most familiar with one called Fam Jam (famjam.net) which I loved going to so much with my son, I've now become certified to teach. I met several people there.

I'll send my phone number to you privately - please feel free to get in touch with me. Good luck in Santa Fe!

Also, try picking up the two free family newspapers - New Mexico Kids and Tumbleweeds. They are full of activities that are happening within the next 2 or 3 months (NMK is every two months, Tumbleweeds is every quarter). They can be picked up at the Borders or the libraries.

Oh, yeah - I also live here in Santa Fe. I currently homeschool my 6 year old dd, but did AP without knowing what it was called or that there was a special group of us out there
.

Welcome to Santa Fe!

Allison here, currently in Monument, Colorado --

I'm moving to Santa Fe over the next two months (done by Thanksgiving and my *wedding* wheee!), and will be delighted to meet folks.

I'm semi-crunchy and primarily AP in parenting philosophy, but much more go-with-the-flow than some of the rules-oriented AP-types I've met. My daughter Maya will be 2 on the 23rd.
