Anyone know of any that exist? DD will have to go to daycare twice a week starting in October and I know we are starting the search late (so I am told) but I didn't think she would need daycare until yesterday. Anyone have any good recommendations? In either Astoria/ LIC area of Queens or my husband works near Bryant Park/ 42nd Street so he can travel anywhere easy enough in Manhattan. I would love to hear suggestions

Thanks!

There are certainly good daycare centers and good family daycares in NYC, but I don't know about those two areas. Here are a couple places to start:

1. Here's the website for NYC daycare, both family and centers. You can look up by zip code, and click on any individual to find out details of any violations they've had. http://www.ocfs.state.ny.us/ccfs_fac...h/Default.aspx

2. NYC Bureau of Daycare

3. The NAEYC site for looking up daycare centers

As an alternative, have you looked into shared care? Ds will spend 25 hours/week with a sitter this coming year, and we found a great situation: we're sharing a nanny with another family, so that the nanny has their child 40 hours/week, and our ds joins her for 25 of those hours. It keeps our per-hour cost down, and the kiddos have a built-in playmate. We found a nanny we just love, too.

Best of luck.

Its late now and I cannot think of the name of this new place that will open up n LIC. I do not know about AP friendly but I heard very good reviews of it. It used to be on the Upper West Side and its moving to LIC.
