Apish ped in NW Houston?

374 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  KatyMom
Does anyone know if there is a ap or even semi-ap ped in nw Houston? I have had terrible experiences with 2 different peds offices and really would like to find someone I feel comfortable with. My latest experience involved a doc telling me my son was fussy b/c he was spoiled and I just needed to leave him alone when he fussed. VERY frustrating. If I can't find one, I will be forced to go back to the ped I love but is downtown. I'm in Fairfield so downtown is a hall!

So who is the ped you love who is downtown?

Have you tried a ped's practice over in Katy? It wouldn't be as far as downtown from Fairfield. I grew up near Copperfield....so I'm familiar with the area.

There is a doc out in Katy who is a member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. If you email them, they will send you a list. I will see if I can find it.

Hopefully this works: Her name is Helen Marie Haney, MD, FAAP

I've never seen her, can't vouch for her, have no idea about her. But ... she has some potentially good credentials.

Wow. Thanks for the link. I had never heard of the academy of breastfeeding. She is on fry and I-10 which is actually good for me! I think I'll call tomorrow!

I used to use Dr. William Hogan. I really liked him a ton. He never pressured me to cio (in fact, told me it was not recommended), was supportive that I was still bf my dd past one year and really just never gave me any parenting advice I didn't want. Every ped I have seen since leaving his office has asked me way too many questions about things that are simply none of their business and have nothing to do with the health of my children!
Have heard good things about Dr. Hogan, but didn't like two of the other docs I met. Their office was kind of assembly-line-ish if that makes any sense.

The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine is an interesting group: www.bfmed.org

Good luck,

I really liked our Pedi we had out in Cy-Fair area (Highway6 & 518), I use to drive across town from Meyerland to see him after we moved and when he wasn't covered by our new insurance. I don't know if he is accepting new patients or not. Dr. Lee Dockray. He was the head of Pediatrics for Cypress-Fairbanks Hospital before he decided to go into private practice. He was very pro-breastfeeding. I loved him, one of his nurses... was a bit of a battle-ax (not quite as AP as he is) but I would just ignore her "advice".

He does believe in vax but also understood and was willing to work with us regarding delaying and such. The big thing was going in with knowledge, since he could see that we were making informed decisions regarding them. The battle-ax was a little bit more pushing.
: But again, I'd just ignore her.

I have had great experiences with Village Family Practice - 9055 Katy Freeway. I have only used two of the doctors there (Noel & Groff), but have found them to be very supportive of breastfeeding, co-sleeping, and delaying vaxs. They are not pediatricians but GP's, so the whole family can use them. I have been going there for 8 years now, so I'm very happy.
