So I got a 1/2 bushel of Golden Delicious apples today for making applesauce. My question: My book says it takes between 1.5-2lbs of apples per quart. How many lbs are in a 1/2 bushel? (I need a scale )

According to the website, a bushel of apples weighs 48 pounds.

You can make a lot of applesauce with your half bushel!

Yeah, it's a fair amount. I got... hmm... something like 16ish quarts of peeled apple slices from a single 40lb box of apples the other day. Ish, I forget as I've been a good girl and washed the jars and put them downstairs to happily live next to the relish and jams.

I need a scale, too. I typically "measure" by how hard it is for me to lift, and compare it to how much the produce is compared to my kids. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

I don't know if you have a food mill or not, but if you do, theres no need to peel! I made apple sauce yesterday and want to go find some more apples to pick today - and all I did was cut them up into quarters, cook and then put through my mill. Twas super, uber easy!!
