My dd is almost 3 months old and we are using a diaper service so I have her in prefolds with various types of covers. I thought I was having blowouts because the covers were too small but now I have the next size up and she still blows out a diaper at least once a day. I realize she will poo on the cover almost every time but should she get poo all over her pants etc too? Please give me some advice!

Also what is your favorite cover brand? I am so confused with all the brands. Right now I have a bumkins, a couple generic waterproof covers from babies r us, and 2 polar babies but those are getting too small.

Maybe you could try to pin or snappi the diaper on instead of laying it in the cover to help contain te poops. I like the bummi's pull on covers and the dappi pull-on covers on my skinny toddlers legs. they help us contain messes, but we have to snappi or pn with them. If you want to lay in the prefold, I would try another cover with gussets. Some people really like the proraps with prefolds. Good luck finding a leakproof cover

First, try the sidewall/jellyroll fold for you prefolds and snappi or pin them closed. Here is the link: http://www.littleturtleknits.com/sidewallpf.htm This keeps my covers clean 90% of the time.

The covers that are working for me are bummis whisper pant and Bumpy Wrap Cover (PUL). I've never had poo leak out of either of these covers.

HTH!

I second snappi'ing it. My favorite covers are bummis. Second would be a good cover with gussets like proraps or the gerber wraps. Dappi wraps (I think that's the brand that Babies R Us sells) are not very good IMO.

I second the jellyroll/sidewall fold with a prefold. I've never had a blowout with that fold, it really keeps it all in if you do it right. And it's really easy.

I agree with the Snappi idea! My favourites, especailly at the new baby, blowout stage, are Bummis.

I"ve been : as this has been a problem for me too. Thanks for the link to the sidewall fold! I definitely need pix. And I bought a pattern while I was there, too!

My favorite cover for keeping the poo in are Bummis Super whisper wrap. Even when ds explodes out of the dipe this cover always keeps it in. I also had good luck with proraps but just didn't like the fit as well. Snappi'ing or pinning does help, so does the jellyroll fold but we still have a few escapees. Bummis always saves us. The wterproof covers from Babies R Us also worked okay but I found it his diaper was wet at all the poop on top of that then often slid out the side. HTH!

Bummis! I only had a blowout once with a bummis, and then upon further investigation I don't think a hefty bag would have contained that one. She was sitting in a puddle, and there was not a clean spot inside that diaper or cover...

I definitely suggest the jellyroll fold It saved MANY clothes in this house. I like the proraps cuz they're double gusseted, my DS had EXPLOSIVE poops and these held it all in .

we used alot of prefolds the first few months and they really dont keep in the poo very well. but i think i only had 1 or 2 messy-clothes accidents. i LOVE dappi *nylon* pull-ons (vinyl is nasty stuff, IMO). they never left red marks on ds's fat thighs, but kept the poo contained. and they are really cheap too. granitesmith on ebay sells them.

We had almost no problems with blowouts the first 8 weeks, but now that shes only going once a day...WATCH OUT....lol! Weve started preventing them with the jellyroll fold!

My DD is only 6 weeks old, so things will change I'm sure!

However, I too have good luck with the jellyroll fold and Snappis on my PFs. And my favorite covers are my cheap little Dappis (velcro, not pull-ons). I know Dappis aren't very cool/cute, but so far they're working better for us than the Proraps, and I haven't had any blowouts.

Oh, wait. I have one Biobottoms wool cover that still fits her, and I LOVE it! Even better than the Dappis.

Good luck!
I loved the dappi nylon too.
I think the key is to get that prefold on your baby good and tight. They loosen up very quickly as it is worn. When I pin on a prefold, I can barely get my finger under his waist. literally 2 seconds later, it has loosened up on him so that it is comfortable and not too tight. The snappi also works good.

Having a cover that fits your child right is key. The legs must be snug enough to keep it all in. Proraps worked great on my skinny legged boy until he hit size large. I never tried a bummis on him as a tiny baby, but I like them a lot now. I have him in a medium even though he is 34lbs. The larges are huge.

I never once had a blowout when I was using prefold (up to about 6 weeks old when she started fitting into medium fitteds.) I used mostly the bikini twist and a snappi with Bummis ISWW covers. You just need to be sure to fold the diaper so that you make a good poo pocket to catch the poop and get that snappi on tight enough so there is no leakage up the back.

Yep,I agree with everyone. Try different folds. Or, when I do the angel fold I make sure it makes kind of a sidewall when I snappi it on ds. I use bummis and bumpy and them. Especially the ones that snap!A big difference.

But for a few months ds was going poo like every 9 days, so NOTHING, NO DIAPER could contain that! We're talking, I would look for signs and if he showed them we did not go out that day because I knew I would regret it!:LOL
