We took our 2nd daughter to the ped today. The nurse went over the vaccines with us. There was one I never heard of, it is a combo vaccine-pentacel. I requested the info they had on the vaccine before deciding. THEY HAD NONE. The offered me the info on the dtap/hib/ipv which are now combined into this. They admitted that the info/research on the seperate vaccines don't mean the combo is safe.

I requested to delay until I could research when the doctor pointed out that my older daughter would have been given the pentacel due to her age. I WAS TOLD SHE WAS GIVEN SEPERATE VACCINES. I am furious that they would provide info on vaccine a b and c as the correct info and then give vaccine d. What would you suggest I do?

It is in her record. The nurse today informed us that they give the old info because they have no reserach data on the pentacel vac.

If you want to know about new and improved combo vaccines, read the book A Stolen Life, by Marge Grant. Her infant son was given Quadrigen vaccine in 1961, a vaccine that was the DPT plus the new and improved polio vaccine.

Her son is blind, brain damaged, and she still cares for him.

Needless to say, the Quadrigen vaccine was not used very long. I had never heard of it. She was told at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota that the vaccine caused the damage. She lost a long legal challenge against the vaccine manufacturers.

I personally do not like to play guinea pig for anyone.

As for giving information, I thought that all doctors were supposed to give the information about the vaccine/procedure/drug and the parents were required to read and sign off on them. I must be wrong.

They do have us sign off on the vaccines/treatments but they gave us information that they were giving different vaccines than they did. They gave us the info on dtap ect and we were led tobeleive she was getting the seperate ones but they gave her the combo and never told us. What I am upset about is how can I give informed consent if they are telling me one thing and doing another?

Is there anything I can do to ensure this dosn't happen again?

A quick answer is to simply say not to vaccinate again, but I am sure that is not what you would want to hear.

ASK lots of questions; read the prescribing information and the information given not only to you, the patient or parent of the patient, but read the PDR and the information that the drug companies share with the doctors. DELAY, do your RESEARCH, and always KNOW that you are making the decisions for your child and yourself based on your own personal interests, not the doctors or any one else.

Pentacel has been used in Canada for a while, but that doesn't mean it's safe long-term, etc. And if I remember correctly, it is cultured in a cell line derived from an abortion. Please check inside vaccines or any of the pages that list complete ingredients and manufacturing processes. Also, most doctors aren't aware of the use of fetal cells in vaccine processes, so they might deny it.

If you choose to further vaccinate, here is what you do: you watch the nurse take out the vile from the fridge. You check the label on the shot. It states name, contents, batch number, etc. You verify every single needle used and make sure that every sticker from the viles makes it to your kids' records. I find it odd that that never happened. I haven't vaccinated yet or am not sure when or if I will, but I have a yellow shot record from Europe. Every shot is noted in there and it is mine. The batch sticker always makes it in there, so I know the exact name of the shot I received, the batch number, everything. It is weird how this is not provided to American parents, seems very fishy to me as if they WANT to hide something.

In your case I would also consult with a lawyer, because you consented to medication A when your children received medication B. That is not informed consent, lying and malpractice in my view. I would not let that office get away with it. If there is a way to sue, I would. Not for money, but to put such people out of work, it is unethical, they swore an oath to heal people for God's sake, not to lie.

You can find the prescribing information for Pentacel online. It is just plain laziness that they didn't have it on hand, if they are administering that vaccine.

I think you should consult a lawyer as well, although I am not hopeful that anything could be done. They would claim that they did give you full informed consent for the Pentacel vaccine with DD1, and you would have to show that they did not. How would you do that? As far as with DD2, they did not vaccinate her as per your instructions (right?), so they haven't performed any procedure on her without informed consent.

At the very least, I would not let this rest. I would get the prescribing information (you can find it at vaccineshoppe.com) printed out and take it in and wave it under their noses. Then I would find another ped. But that is just me.

Thank you all. I have considered the lawyer but since we "signed off" on the vaccine with dd1(after it was given and handwritten and illegible) we have no legal basis as this constitutes consent. I have decided to try and file complaints but need to find where(cannot file to the office as the doctor who did this is the head of the practice). Am looking now for a new ped.

Yes they did respect my wish not to give penticel to dd2 until I can research but they tried all the scare tactics-it's required by law for school, telling me how horrible it will be if she gets sick ect.

I would like to find more information on the long term safety of not vaccinating as well as whether or not the "you have to by law" push is true.

I fear to have any more vaccines or even medication for my kids now because i feel i cannot trust the doctors. I also fear the if I refuse and they get very ill its my fault.

I agree with examining the vial yourself before they draw up the vaccine.

I'm not sure they violated the law by giving you those VIS vs the Pentacle VIS.

It's federal law! You must give your patients current Vaccine ...

Oh I would be steaming mad. It's like skirting the law in my eyes, they are required to give you the VIS, which means the one corresponding to the vaccine your child is receiving.

There are only 2 states that don't offer religious or philosophical exemptions for school shots. Here is a link to the exemptions available by state. Good luck with filing complaints and looking into vaccines mama.

There isn't a VIS specifically for that product - patients would either get the combination one which includes all routine infant vaccines or separate DTaP, IPV & Hib ones like you got. But saying they have no research data on that product is foolish since the manufacturer's PI comes in the box with the vaccine. The PI isn't intended to be distributed to each patient but it's certainly available should one ask to see it.

As far a looking at the vials they don't bring them in. They have a nurse come in with the syringes already filled. I am going to hold off on all vacs now until I can find a new ped and research more on the laws.

They have to do it the way you want, I would not allow a prefilled syringe near my kids. You need to see exactly what they give, you have the right to, if they refuse, time to find an honest doctor.
