Are LED light refrigerators really safe?

I was told that it would keep the vegetables lasting longer.

Just want to make sure it's not (truly) emitting any harmful stuff as we ingest the food, you know!

Don't want to find out years later it's actually bad (like how microwave ovens, while great for convenience, are really no good health-wise).

Please enlighten me as I'm ignorant here. Thanks

Properly used microwave ovens are dangerous to your health? Where did you hear that?

As far as I know LED light bulbs are completely safe for your food. CFL light bulbs contain small amounts of mercury, and I think if I broke one on my salad I'd toss it, though.
Just a quick Google gets this: http://www.curezone.com/foods/microwave_oven_risk.asp There are a lot of reasons to not use microwaves.

As for LEDs, I don't know. Labyrinth is right about the mercury in CFLs (which is really only a problem if the bulb breaks), but I've never come across any problems with LEDs.

I'll get my scientific advice from someone who knows the difference between an electrical signal through a conductor and a photon, thanks. ;-) (Alternating Current and Direct Current are terms used to describe the travel of electrons through a conductor, and are not applicable in any way to light waves/particles as seen from the sun or in a microwave.)

There are a lot of other issues with the text in that link, but that's the most glaringly obvious one from early on.

Heating food in plastic in the microwave is a BAD idea (due to leaching), and microwaves will kill off the good stuff in breastmilk, so they shouldn't be used for that either. But a properly-operating microwave oven isn't evil.

Light Emitting Diodes emit light. So I would make sure your milk's in an opaque container if the LED'll be on all the time in the fridge?

I've got to Google this, I've got a ton of LEDs, it'd be awesome to have veggies stay fresh longer.

And, yeah, don't microwave in plastic, but go ahead and use the microwave oven. If they had real evidence they would've cited their sources. And if they were really worried about the health risks of using microwave ovens, they would've given advice on finding restaurants that don't use microwave ovens at all.

Duly noted.
As soon as I threw that link on there I thought I should have fact-checked it before posting. But my point was that there are reasons to avoid microwaves and that there is plenty of information out there (although some from obviously better sources than others!). Admittedly, I'm no expert on them. I don't have one, and have no intentions of getting one, so I don't keep current on microwave info.

I would expect a fridge with LEDs would have its light function like a typical incandecent (sp?) does; wouldn't it come on when the door opens but just use less energy while lit? I'm actually really interested in learning more about LEDs to replace household light bulbs. I wonder how much mercury will accumulate when millions of households use CFLs more and more.

Just heard it around from various people I know who heard it from others.

There is a thread that I noticed just started yesterday and is going on in the Nutrition and Good Eating Forum called "Microwaves and cooking food are they bad for you?" (Sorry, I don't know how to make a link, still being quite computer illiterate.)

But I don't know how bad microwaves really are, or if they are bad. I hesitate to use it knowing it may be questionable, but I really like them for the ease and convenience!
