Well, most parents start out pro-vax. Perhaps they are coming here to look at and consider the anti-vax side.

I agree, I started out pro-vax as well. I think if we just welcomed them here and tried to explain things a bit instead of making comments and scaring them off we might convert a few more people or at least help them make a better educated guess. I respect some people are pro-vax, it's not my job to change the world. I'm here to share my story and share my research and then let others decide what they want to do.

I'm relatively new here. I'm loving it. Knowing there are like minds out there gives me strength to fight the pro-vaxers when the need arises.

Mainly I would lurk and try to absorb and understand all that Just Wondering would have to say! lol! the boards look so cool! when I tried to log on the other day, the site didnt even recognize my email addy, so I guess things changed here quite a bit. I used to go by Lucy, elizabeth and rose are my dd's middle names.

i've been pretty much lurking here for months. My son is almost 10mos old now and my first child not to be vaxed.
My dd is 14.5 and was vaxed fully until this year when the school told her she'd need a tetanus shot and i went in and signed a waiver.
My second dd is 3.5 and other then prevnar is vaxed. but will never be again

and my son hasn't had a darn thing cept vitamin K at birth and the only reason we did that is because I am Jewish and we had a bris.

I thank all the wise folks here on this forum for the links (read so many my head spins), the book recommendations (i've read five of them so far) and the general support.

and hi to all the new folks - there is SO much incredible info here.

This place itself is as informative as any other website because of all the personal experience which sometimes counts as much, if not more, then just plain statistics. I feel knowledge is power, the more knowledge you have the more powerful you are. Without knowledge and good information, I think people feel very insecure and this leads to anger. I think this is why so many pro-vax people get angry at non-vaxers because they realy do not have a lot of good information and these people just run on fear. Ok, enough of that. Thanks again

i dunno if i would consider myself new or not, but i haven't posted much here, until recently when my family went through pertusis (or pertusis went through my family, lol).

i felt alone & needed to hear of others living through it, and i found that here in this forum. i haven't always been non vaxing. my first child was vaxed on schedule (although the schedule has changed a great deal since then-14.5 yrs ago) and i never questioned it other than the typical "dr-if this were your child, what would YOU do?" type of questions of my ped.

until i had my dd, felt a gut instinct that i should discontinue vaxing-went against listening to it, and nearly lost her at 7mos. i can't say for sure it was the dpt or oral polio that made her so sick, so i won't even venture a guess, but i can tell you she had vax induced encephalitis & i could not get a single dr to document it being related to her vax she received 24 hrs before.

thinking of that day, even though it was 11yrs ago, STILL MAKES ME MAD AS HELL. it's unfair that we are not presented with all the facts. that's why i'm here i wanna spread the word that you CAN stop BEFORE something disastrous happens to your babies. i wish i had.

I am relatively new here too. We haven't vaxed 14 month old DD at all. We're fighting the good fight, and with each day I am more and more happier with our decision. DD has not been ill once. I am convinced it is because her immune system has not been compromised by VAX and all the perservatives and chemicals that go with them.

Actually you are right! I started out - well, not really pro-vax, but certainly an oblivious decision maker where vax was concerned. And dd asked me to research it for her son, since I have much more time than she.

I thought I'd find out the benefits of vaccination, certainly there is good reasons to vax every child, and low and behold I found quite the opposite. But it took a while. There are boards that presents as much pro-vax as anti and no one there to present the flaws in the pro-vax theory. MOTHERING is different in that respect and that's why I love it so very much.

Anyway, I think most people are not actually pro-vax, they just don't think about it for themselves. They simply follow doctors orders. But once they look at the issue closely and for themselves, they see the light. :LOL

And here it is, a big to all new posters. May you make the best of the information you gather here.

I am fairly new to the Mothering forums - and I LOVE them!! I have to admit that I was a sheeple until dd was 6 months old - that was the first time I actually went into the room and watched them hold my baby down and stab her four times. Before then, I made dh do it - I was too sensative! As soon as I saw that, I thought "this can't be right" and at her one year appointment she had a cold, so I said we would wait that out. Then I became a delaying vaxer....and by the time she was two, I was totally anti-vax! Amazing what a bit of non-pharma reading will do! I only wish I would have known sooner - she wouldn't have gotten a single one, and I would have signed a waiver before I entered the military so that I didn't have to get the silly things either!

Thank you for all of the support, and all newcomers!

I'm new here too. I had my DS vaxed until 4 months, when he had a moderate reaction. That scared me beyond belief! We decided at that point to delay vaxes, but the more I read, the more I knew I could never do that to him again. The day of our 6 month well baby visit, it snowed almost 2 feet and the peds office was closed. I saw that as a sign, and we haven't gone back (DS is 8.5 months now).

I'm new here too. I'm pregnant with ds2 and trying to sort out all the issues again. Ds1 is fully vax'd except for chicken pox. I really want to do my research this time around before deciding what to do. DH was very pro-vax last time, so I really didn't question it. I'm already learning a lot, but I still have a lot more reading to do.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm new and have always been *this* close to being 100% antivax. My 5yo's recent reaction and all the information I've received here have pushed me over that edge, pretty sure.
