We have Medicaid for ds, and the three pediatric dentistry practices I've found that take Medicaid in the triangle area (we live in Durham) are:<br><br><a href="http://www.drgaryhill.com/" target="_blank">Dr. Gary Hill in Durham</a><br><br><a href="http://www.carolinapedo.com/index.html" target="_blank">Carolina Pediatric Dentistry</a> in Raleigh (their website says to wean by 12 mos, so she looks like a poor choice at first glance)<br><br>
and<br><br><a href="http://www.dent.unc.edu/depts/academic/ped/" target="_blank">UNC Pediatric Dentistry</a> in Chapel Hill<br><br>
Does anyone have experience with any of these dentists (or know another one who takes Medicaid)?<br><br>

WOW!, I just popped in to this tribe to check on something else and this post popped out for me to read....<br><br>
Dr. Wright, the ddepartment chair at UNC ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! we drove 6 hours for a consult, didn't use him for the actual work since we are out of state and our ins wouldn't go out of state.<br><br>
If you are asking if he's AP/Crunchy/natrural? I don't know... we have a special needs child so we kinda look at those things in a skewed mindset.<br><br>
They did let us go back, the room we went into was open floor plan, 6 chairs (maybe) set up so it's not 'private' has seating where other parents were sitting, not next to the chairs but along the one wall. The kids getting work done all got cool sunglasses.<br><br>
Like I said though we are SN parents so..... we were looking for someone who knew a specific condition and he did.<br><br>
Good luck finding a dentist.

We also have medicaid and live in CH. We called the UNC clinic and they told us we had to apply to be seen there. They dont do routine treatments such as cleanings and checkups. They deal with the more complicated cases.<br><br>
Let me know what you find out about the other Dr. in Durham. Im a bit scared about even trying. Medicaid dentists seem to have a terrible reputation.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment">

Oh, too bad about UNC. I knew that's how it was for the dental school, but wasn't sure if the children's clinic was included in that.<br><br>
When I was pg. I went to a dentist in CH (can't remember her name--in Ram's Plaza) and she was <i>okay</i>, but she gave me a shot of novacaine, and it went into the wrong nerve, and my eye was numb for a couple of hours!!!<br><br>
I wonder why there are so many peds who take Medicaid, but not dentists.<br><br>
For some reason, I got a good feeling about Dr. Hill in Durham (based on his website <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">) I think I will give him a try.

Medicaid reimbursement for dentists in NC is terrible, or at least it used to be. So bad, in fact, that the state was sued!

We used a pediatric dentist in Burlington who is very popular. She accepts Medicaid and her office was very busy. We won't go back if I can find someone closer. She was great but I didn't like that I couldn't go back with Chris due to HIPPA confidentiality rules. Somehow, I don't think that was what HIPPA was designed to do. However, he had to have a tooth pulled and came out smiling so I guess he was fine.<br><br>
Anyway, I'm glad to see a listing of other dentists in the area. I know a lot of our Head Start/Early Head Start kids had treatment at the UNC clinic so I'm going to look into their services. My kids are still in foster care so I may be able to get them in without a hassle.<br><br>
I'll also contact Dr. Hill's office.

Well, the good news is that I made an appointment for my 4 year old with Dr. Hill!!<br><br>
The bad news is that he doesnt take the State Health Plan for kids older than 6 which leaves my two older daughters out of the equation.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"><br><br>
So does anybody know of a dentist that might take it. I called the state health plan and they told me they dont have a list of dentists that take the plan<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:, so I have to call around until I find one that does. ISnt that strange?<br><br>

This is sort of off-topic, but how old was your dc when you first took him/her to the dentist? DS is only 16 mos...my younger sister had bad cavities at 18 mos, and needed surgery (nighttime nursing was blamed by the dentists), so I guess I'm hoping that if there is a problem, we can catch it early.<br><br>
ETA: I got those dentists from a <a href="http://www.dhhs.state.nc.us/dma/dental/dentalprov.htm" target="_blank">list</a><br><br>
which doesn't seem to be complete, as my cousin just told me about <a href="http://carouseldentistry.com/" target="_blank">Carousel Dentistry</a> in Durham, which also takes Medicaid.
