i am going to the mw today for our first appt. i didn't want to go until 20 weeks, but she wants to actually meet me in person before that.

i broke down and asked her to listen with the doppler for a heartbeat. i am very anxious and nervous to see if there is one, since last week i thought i felt a tickle and maybe even a little flutter, but since then, nothing.

what are you feeling besides gas?

i feel some stuff sometimes. i lie next to ds and rub his tummy to get him to sleep and, if i eat some chocolate before his bedtime, i can generally feel the little one bouncing along as ds lies beside me.

i don't have any stomach muscles though
i forgot to get them back after i had ds. believe me, i'm going to get them back after this one arrives.

one reason i haven't been back to the gynae is because she doesn't do the doppler for the first three months...just internals. sigh. maybe i'll see her next month, then we're moving and i have to beg a clinic to let me in there. i talked to dh a bit about home birthing last night, just to see where he was, he's in the same place which is no thanks. just as well because it's so complicated here. i think about sneaking across the border to belgium but apparently the groovy part of belgium isn't that close to us either. ah well...

we'll have a listen for the baby next week at the scan and we don't tell people (most people) about the baby until the scan/heartbeat.

internal? whats an inernal for so early? i mean i know why OBs have their hands up there every visit at the end of a pregnancy, but in the beginning? what on earth for?

my mw never had her fingers in there until i asked her to check me half way through labor.

how crazy!

I'm at 13 weeks, and not feeling anything I can pinpoint as baby. Last pregnancy, I was on some other board, and I remember reading lots of posts from moms who could feel the baby. It took me until 18-20 weeks - after we had our big u/s, and boy was it frustrating.

I just had a Dr. visit on Tuesday, and got to hear the heartbeat! It did help reassure me that baby's really there. Good luck at your appt!

I haven't felt a thing, and with this being my first, I'm not at all concerned. Heck, there's so many other symtoms happening to me for the first time I just know somepin's going on.

probably OT:
I was just reading last night about how amazing the human female body is. It makes this baby without a single conscious effort of my part. I'll throw in a load of laundry-my baby grows some teeth. I eat some ice cream-my baby separates it's fingers. I mean, what a cool thing.

I love this quote here:

Quote:
This consciousness knows how to grow a baby inside of us. We don't have to consciously "assist" it, figuring out how to grow fingers and toes, eyes and ears. We simply have to trust that as long as we get fresh air and exercise, shelter and food, the fertilized egg within us will grow into a human being. And because nature or God is efficient - it completes what it starts - that same reasoning can be applied to the act of birth.

In other words, we are not suddenly abandoned at the end of our pregnancy. There is literally a birth "response" that propels our babies from womb to world with very little conscious effort on our part.
Here's a link I got through the MDC board. Fantastic website that talks about orgasm with childbirth

heh, i guess that might seem pretty amazing info to someone who has never had a baby, but when unhindered, childbirth really can be a pleasurable, sensual, sexual experience.

my labor wasn't so sexy cause i had 7 hours of back labor, but the actual birth itself was pretty pretty physically empowering and made me feel sexy and sexual and all woman.

oh yeah. internals everytime. they love to check on the cervix. it's way medicalised here. even midwives are all about getting up there, having a check. my pregnancy was confirmed by my gynae rooting around, not by a blood test. she did tell me the embryo was in the right place though.

Isn't Michel Odent from France? Are you anywhere near the famed Pithiviers Hospital ?

I had the impression that France was much less invasive than in Canada?
hmm, that is too bad.

someone else mentioned this place to me, unfortunately i'll be no where near there in feb. but it's not close to paris either. they have an incredibly high rate of epidurals here, midwives follow your care but they're part of the medical system so i guess it might be like an nurse practioner in the states? anyway, lots of medicine, lots of scans, lots of internals, lots of interventions. it is possible to have a natural birth here -- there's a woman on mdc who recently had one at the place i delivered ds -- but it's not at all normal. i laboured without epidural for about 8 hours or so and i don't think the student midwife had ever seen that before -- the look on her face!

I've been feeling a lot of flutters and a few pokes since about 10 weeks! But I felt them on the early side with my first too... by 13 weeks I think. My doc assured me that some women just feel the baby early! So that was cool. I'm sure that's what you felt! And you'll feel a lot more very soon!

I'm so happy for you! I just love the heartbeat!! And I know how you feel about wanting this baby so bad. I'll do whatever it takes to hold this little one in my arms. I have my appt. tomorrow (I'm 14 weeks).

Congrats again! Enjoy!!
