Anybody sending announcements? How are you doing them? I was excited about that little part of having a baby, but I just priced a few...and yikes...they are kind of expensive. Even the postage for 100 will almost be $40 alone.

So is it ok these days to send email announcements to friends and family? Seem much easier and then everyone gets what they really want which is some pictures.

What do you think? Printed or emailed? I hope I'm not just being a cheapskate--but I'd rather buy some good cloth diapers with that money, KWIM?

I didn't send out baby announcements with the my ds. We did send email announcements and pics and we do almost every month still through ofoto. I like the idea of an announcement though, I think I was just a bit overwhelmed with the first child and having the unpanned c birth, etc. This time I might send out a pic of Coltrane and the new babe together ( if I get to it! ) If not, I will definitely do the email thing again.
I think people are really used to getting email info now and alot of people have photo printers at home or can put it on a slideshow. Still.... getting those announcements in the mail is quite nice. We'll see what happens...???

We were thinking of photoshopping together some kind of template, plugging in pictures after the birth, then having them printed through snapfish or something as 5x7s--card and photo together, but we would be designing it ourselves. We've got a number of relatives who aren't email savvy, so physical cards have their appeal.

of course, in light of my growing to-do list, this may be sheer folly.

we might just have a bunch printed up at costco of dd and the new baby, but most likely will just email them around
we did that last time - i have a big family and most of our family/friends are online and at least email savvy.

Shoot, I haven't even begun to think of this yet.
Man, one more thing for the list... I'm so behind on planning that it's a good thing my body doesn't have to learn how to birth a baby.

We were going to with Nathan, but seeing as the cards are still in the box under my bed, not going to say either way this time!

I don't see anything wrong with email or a website as long as all your family/friends have email. Also, getting prints from snapfish or wherever you get prints from and mailing them out with a little note printed off your computer would work just as well as expensive pre-made cards. That's probably what we will do this time if I send anything out.

Just a note: the last 4-5 babies in my family and hubby's family have all sent pics by email rather than by snail mail. You get to send more that way as well!

I have some cute little cards that I'll have to fill in the baby info and I was thinking of adding a 4X6 picture of the baby inside the card as well printed from Snapfish or even take it to CVS or something if I get lazy.

I did check out lots of preprinted birth annoucements. We've moved around alot and have people all over we'd like to send them too...it would get very expensive to do it that way.

I'll send an e-mail to my students I teach though.

I just had an idea that might make the cost and time more bearable. I'm thinking of calculating how many cards I need to send out and dividing it out by the number of weeks I have left, and then address and put stamps on say, 4 or so each week. Still thinking of printing out some of those form type cards and then all I have to do is fill in the info, drop in a pic, and put them in the mail. Sounds good in writing anyway....

Just a thought...

I know some of you are anti-Walmart, and they aren't my favorite either, but with ds we took a digital photo in and had them make the Christmas Card type photo postcards. There were several baby-theme backgrounds and lots of room for them to print the birth info. They came with envelopes and cost about 25c each. We only sent to those that really needed a hard copy, but everyone loved them and they were quick and easy. We also just did some regular 4x6s with computer printed lables on the back.

I'm not sure what we'll do this time, maybe one of the new baby and Eli togther.

Hope that helps!

I have been thinking about this and I think I want to send out pictures. I am thinking about getting a good picture of DD holding the baby or sitting by him, something like that would be really cute. I have a photoprinter and i saw some photo paper I can buy that is for printing invitations or whatever. I will probably get that and just print it off myself.

I think I will make it in photoshop too and just make it up before hand and then add the picture at the hospital or when we get home, whatever I feel like and then all I have to do it print and mail. I could also address the envelopes and stamp them ahead of time.

Last time we made our own, very nice announcements and sent a pic with it. This time, we are doing the digital photo cards from sam's club, which are similar to the walmart ones, but an even better price. They are reasonably priced, and as you said, they give you room to type in the baby's stats. We used them for our christmas cards and they came our very nice and only took 2 days to order.
