Nope, I took them for the first couple weeks before I started forgetting every day. I didn't take them with my son, either. I just pay close attention to my diet to make sure I'm getting good nutrition. I make sure to eat several pieces of fruit a day and green veggies every day, and all the grains I eat are whole wheat. I also drink chocolate Silk for calcium and B12.

Yes. I'm taking them (when I remember... I forget on average of once a week)... and I do try to make an effort to take them because I'm having trouble eating a lot these days and I think of the vitamins as a bit of a backup.

If you've been too sick to keep your vitamins down, do you think you'll be able to keep enough food down to satisfy your nutritional needs?

You might consider at least taking a folic acid suppliment (I got a bottle of them from the vitamin store and they are really easy to swallow, they're tiny and dont' have any fragrance at all). The reason I suggest that is because folic acid helps prevent birth defects like cleft palet (sp?)/hare lip. Although I think the first trimester is the critical time for that.

I met one woman who decided to eat a carefully-planned diet rather than take prenatal vites. But I wouldn't do that personally because the foods we buy at the grocery stores have nowhere near the nutritional value that they're supposed to. Our farmland in America has been so overfarmed and filled with chemical fertilizers (not to mention pesticides) that our produce is of little nutritional value. I guess if you're going to go vitamin-free, you might consider locally-grown organic produce, which would probably have a higher nutritional value than regular produce.

While I agree that organic is preferable, and more nutritious than normal produce, it's simply untrue to claim that normal produce is of little nutritional value. There is quite a bit of nutritional value in most produce, although of course some fruits and veggies are preferable to others.

I take my kids chewable vites. 1 per day. (with kids vites you dont' want to take more than one, because they have higher levels of some things than you need)

I buy the food based vitamins for them.

I just haven't been able to take the regular Prenatals yet. And... do I think they're neccesary? No, not really. I think if you listen to your body, it'll guide you.

Yup - I take em - but I haven't been sick at all nor do they make my stomach funny like everyone said they would.....I was so afraid they would make me puke - but I haven't noticed anything - i am a vegetarian - so I take veggie vitamins by Nature's Plus/Natural Organics. I figure they can't hurt.....

I took like 4 total when I was pregnant with my son.

Now I just take folic acid and occasionally take one of my son's vites (Hero Nutrionals Gummy Vites, no dyes or anything).

Anything with iron makes me sick sick sick! My mom always told me prenatal vits are crap. LOL Her old hippie doctor told her to just eat a variety of GOOD food and all would be well. LOL

I stopped the prenatal vit at 8 weeks. My midwife told me that as long as I was taking 1 mg of Folic acid every day the prenatal vit wasn't that important. So, until the nausea goes away, that's my plan.

Apparently the iron in prenatals is hard for a lot of women to cope with in the first trimester.

i take them at night but mostly forget them in the morning, because i'm still getting morning sickness and they just make it worse. however, since dh lost his job, we've actually been eating healthier, so i don't worry about it.

I was taking rainbow light prenatals until they started gagging me, then I started taking dd's chewables and adding extra folic acid.

They don't have as much iron so I'm not having the constipation problems, but have been more tired so worry about being anemic. Need to add more iron to my diet.

Cleft lip/palate happens around week 7, when the facial features fuse (I was kinda worried b/c my sister has cleft lip/palate). Spina bifida and other problems that folic acid can deal with also happen early.

At this point i just take the vitamins b/c i don't think i'm eating enough fruit and good food.

I recently read about a regime with a regular multivitamin, a Cal-Mag-zinc supplement, and vitamin E. This can help with b.p. pre-eclampsia. I think it's recommended in twin pregnancy; don't know about with singletons. There has to be a limit to what we take though. i mean, it can get a little nutty taking 100 supplements. (and expensive)
