Some of my earliest childhood memories are working with my dad in his vegetable garden. I can remember heading over to my grandparent`s house and always being amazed at what they had growing. Everything growing in their gardens were always so healthy and colorful. The images of the vibrant red tomatoes and the dark green, fresh looking cucumbers are ingrained into my mind for eternity.

I have 5 farm kids that all work hard on our land. We give them various tasks like picking spinach or weeding or cutting back overgrowth from the fence around the fields and they are fabulous. I can even trust my 14 year old to wash and bag spinach or microgreens for the farmer's market on her own. All of them are expert tractor drivers. My 14 year old can back up a trailer better than I can. She is teaching me actually. Kids and gardens go hand in hand in our family.

I'm in the process of encouraging my kids to get outside more as I want them to learn an appreciation of nature early on like I did!
