for lawsuits...I mean now that circumcision is not considered medically necessary and it is advised not to do it routinely...isn't it likely that in the next 20 years or so a bunch of angry men will launch a lawsuit?

I mean not every man is happy he was circumcised and even those who might not have given a fig newton one way or the other would probably jump on a chance to sue for $$$

just thinking...

You're singing Frank's song!
He's been sayin' that money talks for years...

William Stowell settled out of court, I believe. It's beginning already! Here's few other legal battles: http://circumvent.org/WilliamStowell.htm

http://www.icgi.org/Downloads/letter2circumcisers.rtf is an open letter to circumcisionists along those same lines.

One doctor has suggested that the American medical profession is indeed setting themselves up for the largest class action suit in all of American judicial history with possibly more than a hundred million participants and billions of dollars at stake.

However, you also have to realize that the profession is extraordinarily wealthy and can buy the best congressmen this country has to offer lock, stock and barrell. When North Carolina passed the law ending funding of Medicaid payment of circumcisions, millions of dollars immediately rushed into campaign coffers and in an incredible 10 days, the law was rescended. This issue is small potatoes compared to the money in a class action suit and I think the money would begin flowing an a rate only imagined a a Federal Reserve Bank.

There is no doubt that money is at the root of this evil!

So....maybe this country needs a lawsuit...mmm...against the governments that still pay for it...several provinces still pay for it under the Health care benefits...Ontario doesn't though(for a couple years) and the province I am from doesn't either...I believe last year the infant circumcision rate for Newfoundland was 0%~yay...also Nunavut was 0%..it's always been low there though...my husband was probably the only one in our community who wasn't intact.

Maybe if it happened here it would scare the doctors there a bit.....your country has a bigger problem with it.
I think so, but I don't know. I know a lot of men would be too ashamed to do anything about it (like my dh). My dh would rather never get a dime then let everyone know he had been cut and hates it.

My husband is the opposite and spouts anti circumcision everywhere he goes...if someone even mentions possibly circumcising their son he tells them his take on it. He has told his mother how angry he feels about it as well.

But I am thinking of the next generation...really...those who are cut after the medical associations recommend it not happen.

I was going by the letters and the last one was written April 25, 2005 made it sound like they were still covering it.

glad to hear the stopped ...do you know if NWT still covers it?

eta...I am so confused...this is the quote from the minister of Health for Manitoba from a letter dated January 2005

"Rather, it means that the procedure is covered if done within 30 days of a male's birth"
