so - i tried the newspaper fold, but i can't seem to snappi it in a way that the front corners don't slip out, at which point my ds slips right out of the diap somehow. i tried the bikini twist, and durn it if his penis didn't just poke out the side and he peed on the carpet out of the side of the twist - didn't get a drop on the diaper, though. jelly roll fold - yeegads, mammas! i'd have to tranquilize my son to get his to stay still long enough for me to get this one right, i think! (j/k - i don't have any tranq darts left.) (j/k again!) (do i have to worry about making statements like that around here?)

anyway, back to the post - oh, yes, angel wing fold - same problem as the newspaper fold.

is there any hope for the prefold & snappi impaired like me? should i just give up and use fitteds? sigh. how long did it take you to get the hang of it?

You have to pull the diaper really tight and make sure the diaper is higher in the back than the front. Also are the prefolds big enough? Are you using an infant size on a too big kiddo?

When I started having problems getting them on, on upsized.

I do the jelly roll. After I get it on, I tuck and roll the leg openings to make an even better fit.

Hmm Might be time to size up I love the twist, but the secret is doing the twist high, not really between his legs. I also don't really "twist" I basically fold in thirds with one folded up and one folded down...if that makes any sense. That way there's still a bunch of coverage and its super trim and snug. Also, don't be afraid to pull it SNUG. You should post pics and we could critique your technique...:LOL

I don't know what to tell you, it's always hard to describe proper PF technique, easier just to demonstrate...but man, your post made me laugh! : I too am fresh out of tranquilizer darts. That jellyroll fold is a joke in my house. It works, but HOLY COW I am slow! We only use it in desperate times (ie if my mom gave him apple juice at her house )

I found a pic on diaperpin of a modified pf. It's not a prefitted or anything. It just has slits cut in the sides...I'll post the link for you to check out. I'm not much of a pf person, but I tried it on some gerber's I have laying around and it works pretty well.
She included a pic on how it's cut, and a pic on her babe...hope it helps
http://www.diaperpin.com/forum04/top...TOPIC_ID=28072

Mama... you may want to throw the darts at me, but I really must tell you the secret:

PINS

There, I said it. :LOL

I do the newspaper fold on the boy (you can call him a newsboy )

I started having to do pins when C started being mobile and the snappi wouldn't hold. We were total snappi-loving-fools when C was in infant PFs. However, as he grew and needed larger PFs (we love 4x6x4s the most and he's finally getting big enough for a premium that still allows him to walk ), and the snappi just wasn't working for us. C is also usually coverless. I think if he had a cover on, the snappi might still be OK... but thats OK.

We crossed to the other side.

Its sunny over on this side of the creek. C'mon and joining the love-to-pin Mamas.

hmmmm ... well, they're premium size prefolds, which i thought would be the right size. db is about 26 lbs right now. (for reference, he fits into a L firefly at about the midway setting; he fits into Petite FBs just right, and in M & L FBs he has some room to spare.)

i'm sure i'm not pulling it in tight enough, because when i'm done, there's a big gap between his leg or bum and the diaper; however, when i'm putting it on him, it sure seems like i'm pulling it tight! i'll work on that.

i have a couple of pins, but i'm totally scared of pins. i'm scared for him. i'm scared for me. i'm scared for his children.

thanx for the help, mammas!

luckymama how I know I have the diaper tight enough is when its pulled hard enough it looks like its pinching her skin. I usually have my prefolds so tight I can barely fit a finger in the leghole even with a snappi I do the angel wing fold if that helps. Also when I do the fold over at the end I fold it inside out, so the stiching is facing me not dd's belly, I can't seem to get it to work for me the other way

LOL!

Pins can be scary but they work the best. Just practice on a teddy bear or doll or something first.
Here's a tutorial
http://www.cirerrek.addr.com/girl/diapers/pins.html

Ou, I like those linked pages for all theirr information!!

I think its great to emphasize practicing on a stuffed animal or doll and also the keeping the pins in a bar of soap or something to help it slide. A pin that is difficult to slide through a PF can be a real bummer. Having smooth gliding pins makes a HUGE difference.
