My son who is almost 3 years old has been to 4 different dental practices and seen 6 different dentists - all of whom have focused their attention regarding his extensive decay on the fact that I breastfeed and at nighttime. This is despite the fact that I've told them that I have great difficulty getting my son to let me brush his teeth, with no help from his father and that his father feeds him junk food all day everyday. My son also got his first two teeth at four months old and had a mouth full of teeth with no decay at one years old, but after one years old, when daddy started feeding son junk food his teeth rapidly began to decay and within a few months needed caps - which the soonest anyone would work on them was when my son was 18 months old. He had extensive decay by then. I am tired of the dentists scolding me and focusing 90% of their energy on my breastfeeding as the problem! Rant over.

I guess I don't have any specific questions right now regarding this, but just felt the need to express this!

Actually - if there's anyone here from the Philadelphia area that knows of a breastfeeding friendly dentist - please let me know.

You could print this link out and send copies to your dentists,
http://www.brianpalmerdds.com/caries.htm
Along with some of Smilemomma's posts.
Especially one thread called "Told to Wean/dentist/Mom's opinion and BF/Dental Caries
Arghhh is right. I feel your frustration.

Yuck, that sounds really frustrating about the dentists! And about the dh, too -- I can relate on the junkfood thing, and it is so discouraging. Basically I have to prepare all dd's food, and beg him when I'm out to only give her the designated things. He just doesn't get the concept of nutrition, including his own. He means well, but generally goes with the "If she likes it..." theory of feeding.

I haven't taken dd to a dentist yet, though (she's 19months but her teeth look good so far), so I'm sorry I don't have any local suggestions. Hope someone does!
