Argh! (a small baby furniture vent)

Dh's parents took us in early December to a super-fancy baby store, with absolutely gorgeous stuff. They really wanted to get us something special for the babe (especially because we just wanted a cheap-o co-sleeper instead of the fancy crib
), so we ordered a couple of really lovely (but insanely expensive) pieces. The store told us it was a new line and should be in in late February/early March. Well, early March rolled around and no furniture...so they said to check back in late March. So, I checked back, and now they're telling me that there was a delay and the things won't be ready until late April/early May! I guess it's lucky that I'm having a late-May baby, because I could have reasonably ordered this furniture if I was due in March or April. As it is, now that we're moving, I REALLY wanted to get everything set up and ready to go in the new place (so it feels like baby's home), to wash all my clothes and dipes and put them away, etc.

It's just ridiculous...for the amount of money my ILs paid, the stuff should arrive within a reasonable amount of time.

Okay...vent over!

Sorry to hear about that. Like you don't have enough to deal with right now.

I've never ordered baby furniture, but from what I've read in Baby Bargains, it's really common for what you experienced to happen. Which really sucks, because no salesperson is every going to tell you that.

I know when I ordered a wardrobe for ds from pottery barn, it was such a mess. It didn't even ship until after the date that it was guaranteed to arrive by. They ended up charging us when we ordered, and then again when it shipped. Really quite the pain. In the end, I got 1/3 of my money back though. So, it went from an overpriced piece of furniture to a fairly, reasonably priced piece of furniture.

ugh, yes unfortunately these annoying things do happen quite often, and I noticed a lot of times that its more likely to happen to the more $$ stuff just because its imported or hand finished or whatever.
I am expecting a ups delivery of my stroller/carseat/booster seat for dd tomorrow and I am just so anxious until it gets here.
I have been tracking it at the ups website oh, only about 30 times per day!!

I hope you get your stuff soon!!!

That really sucks! I hope you get it soon!
what a pain! Guess I am not having to deal with this this time around.
Baby has NO room, no drawers! Hubby made a beautiful cherry cradle that he will sleep in and all his stuff is in my closet. No crib, no changer, no dresser, not even a room, lol! Guess that is just easier!
And i have NO idea what we are going to do when baby is too big for cradle.
You know, if you don't have it in time, you CAN use a dresser drawer for a nice bed

Oh...ours doesn't have a room either!
We're moving from one one-bedroom apartment to another. The stuff we ordered for her is a chest of drawers and a little wardrobe, because we're already bursting at the seams of our closet space. Those things will go in our bedroom with us, along with the co-sleeper. I don't know what we're going to do when she outgrows the co-sleeper...I'd just as soon put her in our bed, but dh is not on board. OTOH, there is absolutely no space at all for a crib in the bedroom. Guess we'll reassess in the fall.

Actually it's kind of funny, the new apartment is a little bigger, and has a bigger dining area that we can screen off to make another little room. So everyone keeps saying, "Oh great, so you'll have a room for the baby!" Um, no...that's going to be an office space...baby's still shacking up with us!

Man, that sucks. I hate it when crap like that happens. I can understand that everything doesn't always go as planned, but this kind of stuff seems to go on quite often. I'd rather you just be honest with me. Salespeople get told to go a different route with customers, they think it's better customer service or whatever for some reason. It just makes me mad. After working in retail and restaurants over the years, I know your game salespeople, and that ain't cool!

Hey Amanda- ya never know, you guys might fall in love with bedsharing.
I swore I wouldn't, but look at me now... sometimes we have two in bed with us!

Hope your furniture comes soon, whatta pain to wait on a dresser when you have clothes to fold and put away and look at every day!
