Okay so I hope this isn't a faux paus since I noticed the last vaccine topic got deleted

For those of you who chose to delay vaccines until gestationally old enough (or later) instead of doing them based on chronological age...how'd you go about defending this choice to the NICU? Or did you just say "no, sorry, we don't want our baby being vaccinated yet"

NOT trying to start any debate on vaccines here
...but we're going to delay them until at least she's gestationally old enough and I hate confrontation so I could use some advice

I think most nicus will try to pressure you a little bit. But just say you have researched the idea and will not be vaccinating your child at this time and will review your decision at their correct adjusted age. By then you'll most likely be out of the nicu and it will get them off your back. Otherwise say I do not want my child vaccinated and prefer it not be offered or discussed.

I don't like confrontation either esp with doctor types since I was raised to believe they channel God.
Anyway, when asked about vaccines we just told them we'd prefer to wait until the 2 month appointment. That's when most babies get vaccinated. The answer satisfied them. And no we didn't vax DD at her 2 month appointment.

I told them that due to the strong family history of allergic reactions and food allergies, and severe fevers and illness from vaxs, that we wouldnt be doing them......they tried telling me that there was a chance they wouldnt have the issue, but we told them we werent going to chance it and they didnt argue

: I basically said this yesterday at my NICU (to a T actually). I thought I would have issues, but the nurses didn't bat an eye and said "I made sense". It was the last thing I expected and know that isn't how things usually go, but it was nice to have this moment.

Before they transported MAggie, they had a checklist of medical things that they needed our intials in order to have authorization. One was vax. I left it blank and said when its time we will discuss it.

Well one month came up and the HEb b vax came up. I called my ped and she said- I would get it because she had received blood transfusions and would receive more (did too). Even though the blood was screened and all that, why take a chance. Agreed.

When the 8 week ones came up, we delayed a few and did some and then waited a few weeks. We do this now as well. I do vax but I stretch them out over time.

there was no issue in my nicu at all, but they did remind me of it when it came up and that was it.

I'm just curious- did your doc mention when the babe would be likely to develop immunity? Just curious since it's a three part series if there is thought on when the immunity starts to happen in the series. Thanks

Our NICU didn't want to do any vaxing until right before the babes went home, because that meant they were good and strong. Sam only received the HepB the day we left, and then got the first round at her 2 month checkup. We delayed the second HepB until her 4 month checkup because we didn't want to add another shot just for scheduling sake. She'll get her 3rd shot at her 6 month checkup.

Her 4 month is on Thursday...can't wait to see how big she is now!!

DS wasn't in the NICU at 2 months old, but they did want to give Hep B before we left. I said we didn't want it at that point in time, and they asked if I'd get it done later. I said yes. They didn't hassle me over it.

I think if I were to have a preemie in the NICU still at 2 months, I'd just tell them that I have discussed it with my ped and my ped has agreed with giving the vaccinations on the adjusted age schedule instead of actual age. I know both the peds I've seen (I switched after about a month) were in agreement that Joshua was "too little" to get vaccinations when he was 2 months old. He didn't hit 7 lbs until closer to 2.5 months (his due date). Neither one at all tried to talk me into doing vaccinations earlier. They did say that usually they're done by actual age, but they didn't balk at my desire to wait either. And both were very mainstream peds (the really non-vax friendly ped I was originally going to go to moved to France while DS was in the NICU!!!! Talk about kicking a postpartum preemie mom when she's down

We only had to deal with the hepB and my dh just told them we weren't doing it and that was it
My dh just told the nicu, and most dr's, a lot of things and that's usually it
He has no dr=god thing at all, personally I think he likes disagreeing with the drs. I usually make the decision and he enforces them
