so, went yesterday to the perinatologist for my bpp. they started with the nst strip. i warned the nurse that i had been contracting the day before~ cxt lasting 1.5-2 minutes and 6-7 minutes apart for about 2 hours. still was feeling some pretty strong cxts yesterday, but nothing compared to the day before, and not nearly as regular.

so, as they're watching the strip, they exclaim (as if surprised) that i was contracting! (duh) so they continued to monitor for 30 minutes, and then whisked me over to u/s to check the amniotic fluid levels. baby is doing great still, and fluid levels are 16, slightly down from 23 2 weeks ago. okay, so whooosh, off to strip for an internal.

doc comes in, and says "uh-oh. you're not dressed." i explained the whole contracting thing, and my experience through the previous 24 hours. he looks over the chart and a nurse comes rushing in with the nst strip. doc says, "yep. contractions. let's measure you first." measuring a couple of weeks ahead. no biggie. he proceeds to do the internal, and confirms that my cervix is still high and nice and long. (i knew this... i checked!)

i then reminded him that w/my last delivery, i went from dilated to a 3 to delivery in 4 very intense hours. i told him why i hadn't called to tell them about my experience yesterday. he simply said that he trusted my instincts, just don't push it, as baby still needs a couple more weeks to cook, so if i see anything that speaks of impending delivery, do not call, come straight to l&d to get the steroid shots for little one's lungs.

and now i have the diagnosis of an irritable uterus.

fine by me. i'm irritable, too!!!

but seriously, any feedback as to the causes? no uti symptoms, no yeast infection symptoms, hydration is good. they sent the urine sample out for culture to be sure, so we can rule that out later today. (fwiw, this is my fifth pregnancy, fourth baby.)

I have advice but I am thinking my uterus could be classified as irritable too. I have sessions of BH contrax that even start to hurt. Who knows? I need to cook longer too. I see my Dr today and foresee NSTs, bloodwork, etc in my future too. Sigh.

I was so hoping FOR a diagnosis of irritable uterus for me.

You mentioned this is pregnancy 5 for you...when was your loss? The reason I ask is that my Drs think my losses last year are the major factor in my preterm labor. (I has 2 losses including 2 emergancy D&Cs last year) Perhaps your irritable uterus has a similar cause?

thanks, mamas!

2sbm, my loss was almost 5 years ago, and did involve a d&c after 5 weeks of bleeding that progressed into hemorrhaging. i didn't stop to think about it, but oddly enough, the biggie contractions started on the anniversary of the conception of that little one~ how's that for odd coincidence?

i think that maybe this is a combo of factors... doing too much, resting too little, being overheated and 5 baseball games in two days (no, not playing! just watching my 12yo!!) couple that with more stress than usual, and i guess that's my answer, if that's possible!!

My trip to L&D this past week coincided with my finding out I was prego with the little girl I lost last summer, realized it as I was signing forms and releases. Hummm...

With my third I contracting for months and nothing came up. He was born 40 weeks 5 days. I would say I had a very irritable uterus. The day before I went into real labor I contracted for 24 hours straight no sleep. The contractions were 7-10 min apart. I was so tired. At least the actual real event lasted a mere 3 hours and change.
With both number 2 and 3 I was dilated to a 3 from 34 weeks on. Number 2 was 42 weeks.

2sbm, hmmmmmmm. ponder, ponder...

the ctx were pretty "ignorable" on tuesday, but last night was awful. had another pattern of 1.5-2 minutes and anywhere from 3-6 minutes apart. i'll be calling the doc this morning. now i am worrying about this stupid chronic sinus infection. and a possible yeast infection. seriously wondering if either, or both, could be causing this. finished abx last week (a 14 day course of amoxicillin) that was supposed to help with the sinus infection and didn't.

another sleepless night, of which i foresee many in the future... lol

This. I was thinking that you are probably doing too much and need to rest more. If possible. Take care of yourself Sweet Mama!
