I have decided to shape up and lose weight, I already do yoga daily (yogazone style), and walking each day- I'm also going to take up belly dancing.

I love my yoga, love how it makes me feel about EVERYTHING!! I had missed it for a while and got back into it today and I realised just how much I had missed it.

Anyway. Can any yoga mommies tell me the difference if there is any with Ashtanga yoga and Power yoga. As I have seen videos with these 2 titles on them.

I want to get a video to do at home for Ashtanga Yoga- can anybody recommend any good ones (beautiful scenery in the background too )

Blessings fellow Yoginis xxxx
Ashtanga Yoga is a set series of postures generally in the tradition of Pattabhi Jois of Mysore India--no if few deviations in this "pattern".. It became popular in the US when Beryl Bender Birch came out with her book "Power Yoga" (in the 70"s?? or early 80's) alot of instructors liked this term, which she coined because she thought it would make Ashtanga appealing to our culture, and kind of copied the term but not the series. Today, most Power Yoga is a freestyle-vinyasa or "flow". Both are challenging. To get videos..Beryl's website is
www.power-yoga.com and she just came out with her Ashtanga/Power Yoga video
some other I like are Bryan Kest's Power Yoga series (I think his site is www.poweryoga.com)
and Baron Baptiste's videos are really great as well (www.baronbaptiste.com)

I took teacher training with Beryl and plan to study with Baron this year. I've been teaching yoga for 5 years-hope this helps!
