I sent Amy a response as well
Amy-
As a breastfeeding mother I am so thankful that you have continued to post in positively about breastfeeding in public or private. Like all the other breastfeeding mothers I know, I have no desire for a stranger to see my breast, however if my baby gets hungry while out and about we do what we have to do. Our society really needs to get over their problem with functional breasts, nursing mothers are not exhibitionists or looking to give anyone a cheap thrill. I highly doubt that "Elna" is writing to beer and car manufacturers disgusted that she has to see breasts in advertisements.
Being a mother is hard enough without having to worry about upsetting people because I am feeding my child. Since when were we guaranteed the right to NOT be offended when in public, there are plenty of things that make me uncomfortable. However I was given the gift of a neck, if I don't like what I see I use it to turn my head and look away. I frequently see the analogy that "so what if it's natural so is urinating or defecating" my thoughts are, if you eat in public than my baby should be afforded the same right regardless of the vessel in which her food comes.
Perhaps if we learned to support and encourage mothers to breastfeed the American taxpayer wouldn't be paying $600 million dollars for free formula to WIC every year. Not to mention the increased cost of healthcare for those babies.
Thanks again for your support-
Tracy
