I was wondering at what age was your baby interested in a sippy cup. My baby is almost 11months old and he still not wanting to use one. How can i get him interested or should i try another brand of cup. Should i just try one with the straws maybe that would be better or do you think my baby is delayed. He just finally started crawling. I try and work with him with his cup daily but he just plays with it . What should i do im starting to get worried

DD did not like a sippy cup until she was around 18 mo. old. We had much better luck with the straw cups.

Ditto to that for dd. She didn't take to traditional sippy cups for a long time. It doesn't mean your child is delayed.

i think sippy cup use is one of those non-milestones. It all depends on their mood, what kind it is, what's inside, who gives it to them, etc.

My son took one at 8 months, because that's when he started walking, and i thought it was sooo ridiculous for a child "that big" to still use a bottle, lol, i was 18 and clearly knew nothing; thank goodness he didn't mind it!

i gave my elder daughter a cup at 6 months, when she started drinking water and juices, so as to totally skip bottles (i was nursing her "still", yay!)

And my younger daughter started drinking from a cup about a week ago. She is 4 months old. She likes it. i just thought "oh hell, why not" lol.

Have you tried a Nuby cup? It has a soft silicone spout instead of a hard plastic one, and my dd likes it much better! Course she just chews on it, but I figure when she's ready to drink, she'll be used to it

Hi Kadijah! Good to see you again!

Laia started using a sippy cup (the Nuby brand with the soft spout) around 9 months for ebm (while I'm at work). She never really liked it though and we found that giving her a small bowl with her milk in it worked better. We're hoping to move on to a regular cup some time soon, but for now she drinks from a bowl!

I don't think you should worry about your little one not wanting to use a sippy cup...I think they're really more of a convenience for mamas once their little ones are on the move and might spill their drinks all over the place!

My ds went crazy for drinking water at 4.5 months! he was constantly throwing himself towards my glass and I would occasionally let him lap up some water. I tried 2 different sippy cups and he just didn't get it. I didn't know how to tell him to suck....and he's bottle fed!

I bought some tumblers from Babies R Us. They are the brand "Especially for Baby"...or something like that. They are a little plastic cup with a lid that has a shallow spout. If you tip it over you could pour some out. My ds took to that type of cup instantly. I got a 12 pack for 4.99...can't beat it. He is almost 7 months now and doesn't hold the cup properly, but loves to drink from it.

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC but I'm cracking up at this because my cat is named Laia and she drinks from a bowl too...must be in the name...:

Liam started using a sippy cup at around 6 months. I worked and he started rejecting bottles of EBM except when taking a nap, and he wasn't eating any solids, so we gave the sippy cup a try, and he loved it. Rhiannon didn't like sippy cups until she was about two. Before that, we exclusively used straw cups. We found out by accident that she could drink from a straw at around 12 months when she was riding in the shopping cart and dh put his iced coffee next to her . oops! Before that, if she wanted water, she drank it carefully from mine or dh's cup while we held it. My 5 1/2 month old hasn't had any water yet.

My 9 month old is pretty interested. I have one of these http://store.yahoo.com/thebabybungal...osp7ozcup.html and just love it. I tried the gerber kind and it didn't work very well, either i took the anti leaking thingy out and I had water everywhere or I left it in and DS couldn't get any of it. This one is nice because when he bites down on the soft spout it opens it up.

My baby is 11 months and she has *rules* about what liquid can go in what drinking apparatus. She is least interested in sippy cups and only watered down juice can go in them. I have bought many types of sippy cups and the only ones she will use at all are the Nubys without handles or the disposable ones from Target.

Have you tried an actual cup? I know it is a pain because you have to stand there and watch and baby will make a mess, but dd likes them much better then sippy cups. In case you are curious, she will drink only water from a regular cup and she will only drink breastmilk or formula from bottles (no water or juice).

Don't worry. I think that preferences are pretty common.

My middle DS was about 10 months old when I started offering a cup but he didn't really want to drink out of it until he was 18 months old or so and I was newly pregnant and starting to dry up. Peds would have you believe it's a milestone but if they're still breastfed they don't absolutely have to have other liquids.

My dd is nearly 11 mo and is sort of interested, but only if I put a smoothie in it. My middle child was all about the sippy cup by around 4 months. My oldest......he's just about 5 YEARS old and has never taken a sippy cup. They are all different

Thanks momma's for the response's.I will try the Nuby's and the sippy's with the straw's if he dosent take to it. I will let him be and i will try later. It takes a load off my mind to know he isnt delayed.
