I'm still dealing with this stomach virus. I started throwing up last Friday AM, major diarrhea every day, can't eat much food, was finally feeling better yesterday, than last night started feeling nausea again, throwing up and diarrhea at 3am, still feel ill today, cramps in my stomach, heartburn that won't go away, barely hanging on from puking again, trying to stay hydrated with liquids.

I have an appointment Friday with the OB at my midwife's office, so I guess I could hold off until than, but this is getting ridiculous to deal with. But, what could they possibly do anyway? I just don't now what to do. I don't seem dehydrated at this point, baby is moving, I'm just miserable and a little worried about this affecting the baby.

Damn, that sucks.

I guess you have to think-- what are they going to do? If you have a fever, I'd call them right away. If not, it's possible you could wait, unless you're wondering what medication they could prescribe-- and for what you're describing, I'm not sure.

The only thing I would be REALLY worried about, in your case, would be dehydration, which you mention-- but I'm guessing the only thing they could do to that, would be to admit you to the hospital for awhile and give you IV fluids... which seriously sucks, but if you need it, you need it.

You could always call and mention, and see if they have any suggestions, but I don't see what they could do other than IV fluids... so sorry
In your case, I'd wait unless I developed a fever or became dehydrated from the diarrhea/vomiting (which is really possible even if you're trying to keep on top of fluids...)

I wish I had a magic answer, but my gut response is if I were in your shoes, I'd give them a call--that way you don't have to worry about it one way or another. They'll probably just tell you to keep doing what you're doing with fluids and making sure the baby is still moving, and to come in for your next appointment. But it depends on your CP; I'd trust mine to not freak out on me and give me solid advice, but if you think you'd be in for a bunch of tests you don't want, then I'd consider holding on as long as you aren't running a high fever and are staying hydrated. You could always call a health hotline if you're worried about your CP; I know many insurance companies have a number you can call about health concerns, and they might be able to say "this sounds serious" or "this sounds unpleasant, but not too worrisome".

This is just my $0.02; I don't know much about how an illness like yours could affect your baby. If you start spiking a fever or feeling much worse, I'd definitely call if I were you. If it really is a virus, there probably isn't much they can do except to offer supportive care, but this has been going on long enough that I'd probably call for my own peace of mind.

Hope you feel better soon.

I suppose the other reason you might want to call is that there's an outside chance that this is caused by one of those food born bugs that we pregnant women are supposed to avoid--and if so, I think they could treat it with antibiotics if they know about it (and thereby avoid harm to the baby). Of course, I have no idea at this stage in the game whether it would cause harm to the baby, or anything, really. I guess I'd think it was worth calling just to see what they thought.

Ugh, sorry you're so ill mama! I think I'd call, just to be on the safe side. And perhaps there is something they can recommend or prescribe that might help you feel better.

Thanks all. I haven't called yet, I fear them telling me to come in to get monitored, I am home alone with DD and would have to bring her, which would just make it all that much harder on me. I managed to catch a bit of a nap and hold down some mac and cheese from lunch, so I'm sticking to home for now and waiting for my appointment on Friday.

Its definitely not food poisoning as DD caught it from her cousins first, than gave it to me and now DP started with it too. We've had this in the house since last Tuesday and I am so tired of everyone puking!

Hopefully I can get some energy going soon to disinfect the house and kill the germs before baby makes an entrance

Have you heard of the homeopathic nux vomica? Might help.

When my ds was throwing up and I called his ped, they mentioned that if it didn't resolve shortly they would be able to give him an anti nausea medicine that would help him keep some liquids/food down. Maybe thats an option for you? He got better so we didn't need to bring him in.

Haven't heard of that one, but I'll keep it in mind.

So far so good. I held down the mac and cheese and I held down the piece of pita bread I had for dinner. But now I'm getting swelling in my ankles and legs that wasn't there previously. I can't win.
