OK, my DS has one heck of a diaper rash.Right now I'm using all diff creams/ointments, but putting a washcloth between the dipe & him. (so I don't reck the dipes) My mom suggested athletes foot cream. I asked, "Won't that burn?" She said she did it to me & my sis....I'm nervous about it though.
thoughts anyone?

I have used lotrimin on a yeast rash once when nothing else would work-- we tried apple cider vinegar diluted with water and other home remedies first but it just got worse. The lotrimin worked right away. It is also for jock itch. :Lol

It can work if it's yeast...my pharmacist recommended trying female yeast infection cream for my ds - turns out our rash was from a food allergy (soy), not yeast, and it went away once we figured that out! I don't think there's too much risk from trying it, but I also think it might be worthwhile to have the doc take a look...You don't want to put a bunch of yeast meds on it if that's not the issue, kwim?

When we have to use diaper cream, we use fleece liners - they are cheap - and I just wash them with a different load of clothes if they only have pee... plus I can just toss them if they get too yucky. I like microfleece, but you can just buy some fleece from joanns or whatever and that will work, too.

My FIL, an MD, bought me some for my DD when she was about 3 weeks old with a horrible diaper rash. It worked really well for us and did not burn her... she was indifferent to it being put on just like all other diaper creams. Good luck!

if it's a yeast rash, you should try diluted grapefruit seed extract. when DS had a horrid yeast rash it only took a few applications to knock it almost completely out, and within a couple of days it was entirely gone. i'd be extremely leary of putting that cream on a baby's genitals since OTC yeast infection cream makes my crotch burn, itch and swell - can't imagine what it would do to a babe who was sensitive to it.

you can also use calendula cream after you've applied the GSE and let it dry, it doesn't create a moisture barrier and is antimicrobial which also helps with the yeast. plain yogurt can also be used, and is very soothing.

lots of naked time will help clear up contact rashes, if it's not yeast, as will changing as soon as baby's wet.

and you might want to give baby oral probiotics - often times yeast is not only in the diaper area but also in the belly and can also show up as thrush. better to make sure it's not systemic, so it does not return or get worse.

Well I tried that cream, no good for us. I guess its just plain old diaper rash! He's been in sposies at night time lately (trying to use them up). In the morning his rash actually looks better. I give him plenty of nakie time. I guess maybe its a wetness issue? I'm going to buy some flushable liners, keep him greased up w/ vaseline, hopefully we'll see some improvment
