So, we are about to embark on the GF/CF journey and I have no idea where to start. I was hoping some other mamas on in this forum might be able to give me some pointers and links
: TIA!

DS was diagnosed with ADHD about a year ago and it really hasn't been an issue at home until recently. We eat fairly healthfully at home, but I allowed him to eat school lunch for the last month of school and then it happened. . I cannot say for sure it was the culprit, but he has been off the wall since school let out. It seems like he is constantly giving an Oscar winning performance.

My mom in encouraging me to try this diet to see if it helps calm him down. I am open to trying it, but DS is objecting (obviously). Gluten is in sooo many foods, I had no idea it was so ubiquitous. Is it essential to cut out the dairy too? I think we can handle the gluten as I have found a lot of alternatives, and we can switch to rice milk for most things, but casein seems to be a harder one to give up- plus we are a cheese loving family.

It just feels over whelming and DS is upset that he cannot eat many, many things he used to enjoy. I just need a little guidance.

I am not much help, we are just starting this today. But we are pretty much casein and gluten free anyway because my boys have so many allergies. But we are going to go all the way with it today. But this thread was started not long ago and may be helpful for you. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=690102

Maybe you could just start just gluten first then casein or vice versa instead of doing it all at once. Just an idea

if you start one and add the other, don't drop the 1st one!

we did 10 days GF once and then 6weeks CF

neither one improved any behavior or digestion or sleep or clear thinking. nothing. gf actually made him worse- lethargic, thinner, pale.

He is now GFCF and it's wonderful! I love it! he is, for instance, pretrending for the first time, sitting on my lap or gently standing close by for the first time, giving (rare) spontaneous hugs and kisses, sleeping a touch later into the morning. He thinks clearer and asks far more advanced, cool questions.

the problem was that GF he was eating extra cheese and yogurt, and CF he had endless sandwiches and crackers. He needed to get off it all. it's been 5 weeks now and I swear, the diet is 100x easier than I ever thought.

PS- he has plenty of problems the diet ahns't helped. But to see him happier, expressing some affection, and thinking clearly, is amazing! totally worth the tiny inconvenience of dietary limitation. (and lots of supplements)
