Hello! I thought it might be eaiser if we just did a monthly thread. That way a newcomer wouldn't have to go back and try and read the whole thread. This may make it easier as well to get something going as far as playgroups/ potlucks. Bellingham is a great place to live so thought I would put in these great links from one of Amanda's prior posts. Also, mamainmotion I just got your message today. I haven't had cell phone minutes up to this point. I had 12 messages. Sorry, I just haven't been around lately. We will be here Mon-Wed this week and then we will be off to the Flowmotion Summer Meltdown! I can't wait. I am volunteering in the kid's area so am really excited about all the parents that I may get to meet. Nothing like a show to make my week
:

Peace,
Shelbi

We haven't gotten together much lately. It is difficult with everyone's schedule. But, hopefully it will become more regular in the future. I guess maybe I should have put nw wa mamas or something.
Lynden does count though and I do think that maybe dawnwick may be in your neck of the woods. She is celebrating her baby moon for the moment but at least that might be something you could try afterwards.

Good luck on your move boongirl. I know it is difficult moving but hopefully it will be well worth it.

Peace,
Shelbi

Do any of you ladies go to LLL? I was curious because I might end up meeting you at the next meeting.

Ducettemama you count as bham. There are mama's that sign to this thread that live in Birch Bay, Lummi Island, pretty much all over whatcom county.

I am still nursing my 30 month old but we don't go to LLL.
I went twice and the last time my ds had a hard time sharing and threw a fit about a doll and we both left crying. The space was two small to let 9 toddlers play, IMO anyway. That was last year and I just haven't been back.
BUT I think LLL is an awesome organization and that you should try it out and hopefully you meet some cool mama's. My moms was a leader for 11 years and BF me for 5.

I was thinking we should try to try to plan an outing (again).
I still think Hovander would suit all ages but what other places can you think of??

Have good weekend everyone.

Hmm.. I will be wary. I have had situations like that too.. and it hurts. Going to Hovander sounds fun.. but I forget where it is.
There's gotta be some fun places to go... Well.. how old are everyone's children? That might help.

My ds is 30 months
There are TONS of places to go.
Hovander is in Ferndale.

FYI the Northwest State Fair in Lynden starts Monday with a parade.
Downtown Chalk Art Fest and Allied Arts Festival and Farmers market are going on now. We went and it was fun and if you stop by the Kids Center Area for Allied Arts Festival they will giive you a coupon for the Childen's Museum for a free child.
My Vernon Fair is also going on today and ends today.

I am back from the Meltdown and it was fantastic
:

It was such a rejuvenating weekend. We have been so hard up for cash lately and we literally showed up with a dollar to our names until payday. We volunteered and it was such a great experience. I helped in the kid's area and dh did the beer garden. It was awesome. He got to keep the tips and pour beers all weekend. It was supa fun! Flowmotion was sooooooo great on Saturday night. A bit rusty sounding on Thursday but that was just a preview night anyways. The kids had such a great time. Since I helped with the kids area we were camped right next to it. So, we could go and let them play and be able to sit and chill at the campsite. Very cool!

I wasn't sick much. I had a hard time eating the first day or so. But, I just stopped trying to use my free meal ticket and ate the stuff that I had brought. It wasn't as much fun as what the kids and Jon were eating but at least I held it down. Oh yeah, we even got free meals. It was one of those rare magical shows where everything worked out. We even got to go on a hike to the river and wade around. It was extremely cold but refreshing.

Another outing would be cool. I am free on Mon, Tues, Wed afternoons. Hovander is the one with the animals right?

Peace,
Shelbi

Hello everyone. I am a B'ham area hopefully soon to be mother. We are planning to start TTC soon. What I am wondering, is if anyone has anything to say about St. Joseph's hospital? (I would be using the hospital, not home birthing for various personal reasons.) I would love to hear any information you have/ any experiences you have been through, since I am somewhat new to the area, and definitely will be new to the hospital. Thanks in advance!

I know they offer a family birthing unit there. I have heard from several mothers who used that facility that it was excellent. I heard from a few other mothers who liked the regular birthing unit but they all had c-sections and were glad they were offered drugs and were given some in abundance.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for and what you would feel comfortable with. I think it is good to ask you dr what the hospital protocols are for timetables, regular procedures, policy regarding who can attend the birth, is electronic fetal monitoring used and if so when/where and is it necessary, just the same ones you would ask of any other ya know. Don't let your dr off with those short cute answers make him/her really tell you

Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for. I know there are a lot of choices out there but just make sure you get the facts. The policies of the hospital will govern what the dr is allowed to do. Timetables are important and so is c-section rates. Make sure to ask what the rates are before selecting a dr. It is your right to have all the information and if he/she doesn't know they can surely find out for you. If you are certain you want to use the hospital consider having a doula. They provide an invaluable service and can help you sort through the facts. Also, they will actually be with you during the entire event whereas many drs come in during the last few minutes and the nurses are really busy. A doula can be there for you and your partner during the entire labor to help with comfort measures and helping to walk you around, etc.

I am an aspiring midwife so I hope I didn't overwhelm with a whirlwind of information.

Hope that helped a bit.

Hey mamas.. I can't even remember where Hovander is..
But I would figure it out.. although I had to start working for a little bit.. so I might not get to meet up for a while. Maybe we could do like a monthly potluck at a park or play place.. nothing big- just some snacks. Then I can ask for the day off.

I delivered at St Joe's and the nursing staff there is excellent. They are respectful of your choices and very supportive. They have a lactation consultant on staff and great post-partum nurses. Though I was pretty surprised at first when several of them turned out to be male.

Hello

I wanted to bump up the thread.

New mama's tell us about yourself. We always excited to be discovered by more of Bellingham.

Shelbi I am interested in that birth group that use to meet at the library if you can touch base with anyone.
Also did you birth dd in Bham??

I would love to know some opinions on midwifes with peoples personal experience.

I am not sure everyone has found this thread. I found some talk on the last link.

Maybe we could get together Tues., or Wed. this week-??
School starts soon so I am sure some of you are preparing for that.

Anyone thinking of hs'ing? I know Dawnwick does anyone else?

I will check in soon to see if anyone can meet up one morning/afternoon.

Wed is good for us this week. I had dd in California. It was so nice to be delivering the baby in full on sunshine and 70 degrees in November. A very good time
My midwife trained at Bastyr though and she was excellent. I couldn't have asked for a better midwife.

I will try and see if they are still meeting at the library. It was such a great group that I really am sorry I didn't keep going.

Peace,
Shelbi

Does anyone else want to meet-??
Don't be scared-!!

Shelbi I was in your neighborhood today.
Dropping of consignment goods and then to Elizabeth park.

Now it's nap time for ds

So just so mama's know I am in search of newborn dipes and wool covers/soakers. I have some FB for sale too.

I have to search some other forums but I can meet tomorrow.
Did they finish the new parks at Broadway yet-??

The new park at Broadway isn't done yet but it looks almost finished. I bet it will be done before the big celebration. I think it is the first weekend in Sept when they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Broadway park. They are going to have old time games for the kids and ice cream, vendors, etc. Should be a good time!

I can meet on Weds in the morning or early afternoon. I don't think I have anything to do until after lunch. Jon is off of work that day too so maybe I will go out with the kids to give him some chill time. Where do you want to meet?

I hope you have some luck finding the dipes. I tried finding some at consignment shops but didn't have much luck with dd. So, I bought mine online at a place called Ecobaby Organics (I will have to check that name out again). Then, I got a call from them to come and pick up my order and realized I had ordered from a place that was only 5 mintues away from the house. I think I paid $200 for a pack of dipes that i used until Ani got bigger and then I just bought a pack of the next size up. They were awesome since they were the kushies kind with the velcro straps and no need for plastic pants to go over them. I know it sounds expensive but not when you add up all the expense of disposable ones. I really like those ones as well. I used the old style ones with ds and they weren't horrible and he was always leaking, etc. Plus, he seemed to have a continual diaper rash with those probably due to the rubber pants we had to put over them keeping all that mosit heat in.

Well, just let me know about Weds. I hope some of you other mamas could meet as well. It will be fun.

Peace,
Shelbi
