The Komen Austin Race for the Cure is coming up on Sunday, November 6th. I'll be participating myself, but I was thinking it would be cool to form a Mothering.com team! Anyone want to create the team?

To sign up, visit http://tinyurl.com/8o67k and complete the registration process. Basic registration for the 5K walk/run is $25 for an adult or $15 for a child. You can also sign up for the 1-mile Komen Kids and Family Walk/Run. The Race depends heavily on participants to raise funds to support the fight against breast cancer. After you register, Komen Austin will send you an email that you can forward to family and friends, asking them to make a pledge in support of your participation in the Race.

Visit http://www.komenaustin.org/ for more information about the Race for the Cure and the Komen Austin affiliate. The Komen Austin affiliate uses the funds raised in the Race for the Cure to fund breast cancer education, screening, and treatment programs in our own community and to support the national search for a cure. At a time when one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, this work is vital.

If you can't join the Race, feel free to clear your conscience by making a pledge in support of my participation! http://tinyurl.com/9prlf Every little bit adds up!

Bah! I've been so busy lately I haven't had as much time to peruse the forums as I'd like.

The race went great, especially since I walked it. How'd it go for you? Wasn't that crazy how many people were out there?

Hey Snozz! It went great. I ran much better than I expected, averaging just under 9 minutes a mile, which is really great for me. I only started running again in January after having babies and I generally average 10 minutes a mile. Plus, I always get so high on the energy out there, the causes, etc. It's a great feeling. Are you running anything else?

: No, I'm not running or walking any other races. That's actually one of my New Year's resolutions...to walk more regularly. Do you mostly do running to keep in shape? I have such a hard time finding something that I want to do...high-impact hurts my weak knees and walking is fine...I just get so bored! I start thinking about everything I need to get done at home/work and want to hurry back, which doesn't help.

I really need to find some internal strength and just make myself DO IT!

I didn't do anything until I met with some Austin women who coaxed me into training as a group with them. So I did it and we did the Danskin. Then that was over and I did nothing. Then they started running with Gilbert's Gazelles and I was turning into a slob again, so I joined and now I'm training for the 3M half-marathon. Austin is the coolest place for getting outside. Town Lake Trail is so incredible. After living for years in a dud of a town, I get a high just seeing so many people outdoors walking, biking, running, etc. God, I this place!
