The Environmental Working Group has an awesome searchable product guide that ranks personal care products (like lotion, soap, baby products, cosmetics etc.) by their chemical content. I recently discovered it and now I use it all the time.

The whole report is available here: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep
from that main page you can click on "searchable product" guide, and search for all kinds of products.

This is very, very cool.

Holy cow! Now I want to look everything I own up. I am kida confused though. Aveno oatmeal bath had two unknown ingrediant effects...oatmeal and mineral oil.
Does that mean it they don't know if oatmeal and mineral oil cause health effects?

Also what are products that cause no risks? Does castile soap?

Here is a good article on why mineral oil is horrible:
http://www.jorbins.com/baby-nursery-...l-oil-fact.php

I found that EWG site a few months ago and I love it! I am constantly looking up products on there.

Thanks for the link! What an awesome site....too bad the stuff I just bought at the drugstore is high on the "bad" list!

yeah, its easy to get sucked in... I am now obsessed with that site.

It isn't perfect though. As you noticed, sometimes thing end up high on the list because there are "untested" chemicals in them. Sometimes they are bad ones, sometimes they are things like oatmeal or lavender... Overall it is a good source though.

One major mistake I noticed though was in the mascara (I look there after a post on here about people's favorite masacra). It has some almay product really low on the risk scale, but when you lok at the listof ingredients, there was clearly a mistake because it only has two ingreditens listed. I went to drugstore.com and verified that it has a lot more ingredients, so would liekly end up much higher on the risk scale... anyhoo, overall I love it.

But yes, of course, I too discovered it after I had just bought a huge tub of hand soap that I am now afriad to use.
