This is actually about my dh, but I don't know who else to ask. My dh was up every 10 minutes all night long with awful pain in his gums. He says there is a hole in his tooth and he thought his gums might be bleeding. The dentist was only concerned with what insurance he has so he gave up on them. I am afraid the tooth/teeth are infected badly but he won't hear of it. Orajel was working this morning but isn't doing anything now. Is there anything he can do until he can get to a dentist next week?
When I had killer teeth pain and no dental insurance I was able to see a dentist out of pocket and get a script of vicodin. Maybe that's possible? Since you do have insurance (well it sounds like it) it should cover an emergency visit right? Then I was able to cut the vicodin in half and one would do me for 8 hours when it was *bad* pain (vicodin made me loopy, like 5 year old going to Disneyland happy but drunken so I only took it when I *had* to). I've also heard that heat is bad on toothaches, and ice is better, but heat helped me a lot too. Perhaps he can try both?

I really feel for his pain... I needed 4 root canals at once (all 4 teeth were open) and was in SO much pain... teeth pain is seriously the worst. I hope he can find relief soon!

And for after he gets the work done (if its a root canal he needs) Ibuprofen is the BEST thing (at least it was for me)... vicodine or codine wouldn't touch the pain, but OTC Ibuprofen took the pain away lickidy split because the pain was from everything in there being swollen at that point...

Thanks for the advice! I don't have any clove oil.. where would I get that? He says it doesn't hurt as much now, but I think he is just saying that so I will stop nagging him about the dentist. He has G6PD so I know he can't take asprin but I think he can take ibuprofen. He took tylenol the other night and it did nothing. I am going to keep after him.
