Hi everyone,
I've got a 9 month old high needs baby. he's very active and has a hard time settling to sleep for naps or bedtime. I was wondering if it's ok to give him some weak chamomile or "nighttime" tea to drink to calm him. Are there certain herbs that I should look for and/or avoid? Thanks!

Yes, give it a try. My son is (was) a high needs baby and I totally feel for you. I was sooooo tired and just wanted him to sleep. NONE of the calming/sleepy herbs worked- at all. That baby could have drunk a gallon of sleepy time tea and still rock on all night?!!

I also got so sick of people telling me I neeeded to "...get him out and wear him down..." more during the day. We went straight from am to pm and he could of run a marathon during the day and still... rocked on all night.

Sorry I'm not much for support- we had a rough first year. BUT... all those people who say that there's a "light at the end of your hn tunnell..." well, THEY'RE RIGHT! I just have to add that my 21month old son really exhibits none of his crazy hn behavior he did as a baby.

I've given my babe (who is just over 9 mo) a chamomile, fennel, calendula herbal "tea" since he was about 2 mo old. I make it every few days, put it in the fridge (once it's steeped & been strained), & give him a little bit in his bottle right before bed at night. It's helped his digestion & sleep - though he still has plenty of nights of wakings &/or fitful sleep. But herbs that mild are safe if given in the right doses. I also just started giving him an elderflower "tea" b/c he has a cold/flu, but i'll stop giving him that once he's over it.

hope that helps!
