my 18 month old is obsessed with phones. toy, landline, mobile. you name it she wants it.

today i gave my mum a quick call, forgot to put phone out of reach, Evie gets the phone, i didnt notice. the room goes quiet, but i can hear talking, tinny, far away talking, its not the TV, i look, Evie is on the phone, the voice is coming from the phone, i listen in. OMG she had only gone and dialed emergancy services!!!! im so embarrased!! i apologised profusly, explained the baby got the phone, lady on the other end said its ok, asked me to confirm we didnt need emergancy services and that was it.

i think i would of preferd it if she rang an international number, that would be less embarasing i think!!

phone is now out of reach again.

OMGoodness, my kid loves the phone too! And she can do things on there that *I* can't even do!! Once she added a contact, and she's put me on the internet (I have no clue how to do this) many times, once for 57 minutes!!! We had to call the phone company and explain, since we don't subscribe to the internet service and they would have charged us an arm and a leg!

We've tried to give her old, non-working phones but she doesn't want those...

Yeah, they catch on fast! DH and I just got new cell phones, so we gave the kids our old ones, and at first when DD got mine she looked all wondrous and excited, but after about 5 minutes she ditched it and never looked back -- she's all about trying to get my BlackBerry now.

My ds loves phones too. Luckily he still sometimes plays with the non-working cell phones we give him, but more often than not he wants only the real thing. He has texted people numerous times from my phone - with letters and everything. I don't know how he hits the right combination of keys - it's kind of like if you put a monkey on a typewriter, eventually you'll get Shakespeare.

My LO calls to my landlord many times because his number is 1st on the list. Other times she connects to internet shops for ring tones...
So whenever she sees the phone, I can't hide it but will turn it off. But she still cries when the monitor is just black.

We have been doing phone patrol for nearly 8 months now. My ds has been obsessed with the phone since he was about 9 months old. Literally, once he could crawl, it was to the phone every time. Now that his dad and I are separated, ds gets to talk to his dad on the phone once a day, which means that EVERY time someone else (me, my mother) try to use the phone, it turns into a screaming melt-down fit when we dont hand it to him. He thinks it's his. Its been a nightmare. Once when I wasnt supervising well enough, ds dialed 911 while (I thought) he was "talking" to his dad. I didnt know until they called back a few minutes later. I was MORTIFIED.

He sometimes uses "his" phones (old non-working cellphones), but generally the working, lit up noise-making one is WAY more interesting

My now 3 year old did that when he was around 2! We did not even know about it until the police showed up at the door. 911 was on speed dial on an old phone of ours, which I did not realize...he had taken it off the hook, pushed some buttons, and hung it up.
The police were VERY nice and understanding about it...though to be honest, once I got over the surprise, I was kind of concerned that they did NOT insist on coming in the house and checking things out! They came to the door, I answered, the said "someone called 911", I paused, then said "Oh my gosh, my 2-year old was playing with the phone, I had no idea, I'm so sorry" etc...and they took my word for it.
