So during the day at times DD likes to wiggle around while nursing and see how many positions she can get her body into. She is 11 months. One of her favorites is while nursing she likes to sort of get into a fetal position with her feet pressed against my tummy then she will push off with her feet over and over again so her bum goes up and down...again nursing the whole time.

I think it is funny and cute. My mom thinks I am weird for letting her do it. I don't think that I am comfortable letting her do this in public though.

I am just wondering if any of you have acrobatic nursers and what your approach is.

and why?

The nursing necklaces seem to help a little, and so does positioning.
Sometimes a little toy will help them focus.
When I have one, I tuck them close, holding the bum down from dancing and sing softly, amazingly this stills them.

I tandem nurse to save time, and both boys do this cirquedesoleil thing...I had no idea my breasts could stretch so far
I hope more people respond, because at 14 months it's become quite daunting for me.

My dd does all kinds of acrobatics too, and like you, I think it's funny and cute and I just let her do it. My sister thinks it's kind of weird. She says she always encouraged her boys to just lie there and nurse, and she never nursed them in any position other than the cradle hold. (She also thinks it's a little weird when dd sits straddling my lap facing me to nurse, but that's my favorite position.) I think her approach seems a little weird, myself. I don't see why there can't be fun and games as part of nursing.

In public, I try to be somewhat discreet about nursing, and would discourage the more vigorous acrobatics - but, you know, now that I think about it, she doesn't seem as acrobatic when we nurse in public. Maybe she's not as relaxed there.

My DS's thing is to "tweak" the opposite nipple when he's nursing. Sometimes it doesn't bother me, other times it does (especially when his nails are sharp)! DS will lift my entire shirt and push aside my bra on the other side to get to the nipple.

Obviously, when we are in public, I do use a small blanket just to shield the entire mall, restaurant, etc. from seeing my breasts. But usually my DS doesn't want to nurse in public anymore anyway...he's too busy.

My little acrobat loves to do all of these things, too. He is 13 months. He doesn't really do it when we are out, but I think that is because I am usually walking around, holding him, as opposed to lying on the bed. Could that be the difference?

We get such a kick out of it, and we have to remember to capture some of this on video! LOL!

You know that CD smilie (see Sarah's signature above). That is how DS likes to nurse! LOL!

/QUOTE]

: That is just too funny!! If it doesn't bother you, it shouldn't be an issue. MY dd's 21 months and loves to play while nursing. Problem is, she's usually more interested in the toy, and just wants to take my nipple with her. OUCH!! I usually put a stop to it and say "Ouch! either nurse, or play". She chooses differently each time.

The funniest was with my older dd, when she was about 2. I was lying in bed and she came up from behind my head and latched on standing up, bent over. :LOL

My dd likes to sit straddling me and nursing. I find it quite comfortable...I don't have to do a thing. In fact she pushes my hands away if I try to hold her or touch her. So much for that close personal bonding while nursing.

My ds is 2 and for the last year has become quite the acrobat while nursing. His favorite is to put his feet against my chest and his butt straight in the air. Most of the time, I don't mind unless he's pulling to the point that it hurts. Sometimes, though, I find it irritating; like at bedtime when I want him to settle down. Then I usually tell him that if he wants to keep nursing, he has to lay down nice. And he usually does or else lets go and plays.

Both my sons did the twiddle the other breast thing. With the first, I tried to get him to stop because I found it unnerving in public, but eventually gave up as the fight wasn't worth it.

another one with a little acrobat here as well. i told DH they should start an olympic event the other day dd was literally standing on one foot, like she was doing an arabesque :

in public i find it very helpful to nurse with her in the sling. she's pretty much held in place so she can't get too wiggly, and the tail is a convenient quick cover if she should decide to expose me to the entire universe! from a hip carry, i loosen the rings, and then bring her feet to the opposite side (so her head's still on the side where she was riding on my hip, but her legs are coming acoss my lap).

Bwahahaha! Bleuet does that sometimes too, like "I want to nurse, Mommy, but ew, don't touch me!"

ds does his acrobatics at nite mainly. i sleep nude so - i'll be lying there and he'll look over and notice my nipple - then he'll drag himself over and plop on for a sec with his butt in the air on all 4s. then he'll try and pull it over to the side (even more than gravity does) so he can lie down and nurse. i crack up at the goofy things he does.

during the day he has started sticking his hand up my shirt to play with my bra. in public i try to push my shirt down more but he loves to lift my shirt high!

My DD was like that at that age. I say that that is when nursing gets fun! I think it's a trip to watch all the different positions she can/could get into. DH and aI have spent many moments cracking up while she puts on a "show". Both my mom and MIL think it's hilarious, too.

Our most common position now, at 21 mos, is nursing while stradling my leg and sitting up facing me. I only dislike this when she falls asleep nursing. It's much easier to lay her down if she's in the cradle hold.

just wanted to add that i think nursing acrobatics are unbelievably cute.

i recently began to nurse isadora in that sitting on my lap facing me position and it's wonderful. i've had issues with sore nips from the get go (finally figured out it's do too a wide upper front frenum) and this position definitely decreases discomfort.

she's only 8 months old - i'm curious if she'll eventually hold my breast when in that position or i'll always have to lift and hold it for her. i'm hoping for the former so i can be hands free!

my little guy is an acrobat..he never sits still long. lately he has even hurt me a few times thinking my boobie will stretch farther than it really does. he likes nursing in the front facing straddle position too..ooh and i hate it when he tweeks my other nipple. they are so sensitive it just makes me cringe. sometimes he doesnt like me looking at him or touching him when he nurses..he will push my face away, and my hands. what a little monster!

I called it extreme sport nursing. It was like she had to pull a trick then practice over and over. Oh it was cute. In public I would just put her in one of those little straight jackets -solved that problem-

that IS a joke hehehehe

The acrobatics annoy me, but I tolerate them if they don't hurt. When he first started doing it I would try to get him to stay still, and it started to feel like the World Wide Wrestling Federation! If he gets too acrobatic I unlatch him. If he really wants to nurse, he'll nurse, and if he's too wound up, let him play with me until he's done playing.

On the other hand I do let him bring a book with him to nurse, though I try to stop him from actually opening it and attempting to read!

I too find it annoying when dd starts practicing for the olympics while nursing. Maybe if I was Gumby my breast would just stretch and it would be fine, but I'm not. I have found that a nursing necklace helps. I also will often take a break if she is too wound up to be still and then try nursing some where else in the house, like the rocking chair instead of the bed.
I commend those of you who support your little athletes in their pursuit of gold medals in gymnastics while nursing.

So I am thinking about making a nursing necklace. It seems that if DD has something in her hands she focuses more on nursing and less on the acrobatics.

I have a lot of fabric scraps. What if I just knot them all together and make a necklace from that?
