My toddler turns two today (where did it go?!) She's always nursing Elmo adn the like, so we decided it was time to get her a baby doll. I found one at KBToys when they were going out of business for really, really cheap. It had a bottle with it, so ugh, but still, for about $4.00, I couldn't complain. I ordered her a child's sling from Pretty Momma Sling. She opened the baby first.

"Oh, my pretty baby!" She holds her for a second, pets her, etc. Then says "Where's her sling?"
:

I gave her the sling and she pops baby in, and says "I go outside now?"

The only thing that really freaked me out is that she said "I feed baby?" and then proceeded to give her the bottle?!
: She's still nursing and her almost 10 month old sister is nursing, where in the
: did she learn what a bottle is???? Oh well, at least she knows with a baby comes the sling....

That is just so sweet! I can't wait until my baby girl is big enough to play with babies! My ds likes dolls okay, and is very sweet and gentle with them, but he'd rather play with trucks! I made him a sling when he was 15 months....let him pick the material (he chose the one with big monster trucks on it; go figure! LOL!), and he likes to wear it around sometimes. Sometimes with his doll in it, but usually carrying his trucks or his dinosaurs!

Anyway, I can't wait till I get to make a cute sling for my dd to carry her babies in! I have noticed that it is very difficult to find inexpensive dolls that don't come with bottles. And lots of them come with paper diapers, too!
Guess I could remove them before giving the doll though. And make little cloth diapers for them!

ETA: I once came across a site that had waldorf-style nursing dolls--mama dolls with velcro nipples and baby dolls with velcro mouths! They were adorable....the mama dolls even had nursing openings on their dresses! They were so cute! I bookmarked it, but can't find it now.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

awe so sweet. Dd slings her babies all the time. Though she's no longer happy with the pouch I made her now she has to tie her babies on her back since thats how I generally carry her brother so I use a play silk to tie her babies on her back
I love how gentle and loving she is with her babies (and the real babies she meets at play group etc) its very reaffirming that what we do works

Marisa, I don't think those are the same dolls I saw, but it's the same concept! So cute! Thanks for finding that link!

Aw, how sweet! It does my heart good to know our kids will grow up knowing how to use a piece of cloth to carry their babies and won't have to deal with any of the learning curve most of us did.
