This is so heartbreaking. I feel for these parents. I went through something similar with my 8yo dd. She was not conscious, unresponsive and was severely dehydrated and the stu-pid doctors kept going on and on about her not being vax'd so they wanted to run tests first. Meanwhile, my dd was having trouble breathing and I could not get her to wake up. I basically forced a nurse to get an I.V. in my dd while we waited for another nurse to come back with the needles to do blood draws for the vax tests. Arghhhh!

Why don't hospital staff listen to parents? We know when our child is in danger, right?

I'm not surprised. A lot of hospitals and other places that provide "health care" are horrible.

Last year, I ended up in the hospital unable to move. They assumed a 23 year old, complaining of pain, with the smell of alcohol on her breath (I had 1 glass of wine earlier that night)... somebody looking for drugs. The physician literally shoved me off the stretcher, trying to prove I could move, and sent me home. I had Lyme meningitis.

Fast foreward about a year later... I end up in the same hospital, for similar symptoms (I should've gone to a different hospital, but I was in PAIN!). I had taken several pain pills (5 vicodin, smallest dose each) in order to be able to move just to get to the car, in a short period of time (2 hrs). I explained to the staff that I have Lyme Disease, and it was untreated, and that's what led to the pain. They put me in a mental hospital for 3 days, accusing me of overdosing and being delusional claiming to have Lyme Disease. They figured since I wasn't undergoing treatment, I must be making it up. If they knew anything about the controversy regarding the illness, they might have been understanding.

I think this is scariest because, well, if you can't get treatment for EMERGENCIES in an EMERGENCY room, where the heck can you go? I'm sure many of us just view hospitals as places for emergencies, but what to do if you can't get help? Reminds me of the movie with Denzel Washington (forget the name) where he basically held a hospital hostage until they would treat his son. So scary to be brought to that point!!!

My heart goes out to those parents...

I to had an incident in the ER....last yr in july about 1 wk after giving birth. I started to hemerage. the triage nurse said ok sit in the witing room and we will call you whe nwe get to you..meanwhile the blood is gushing out of me. im about to pass out. .the nurse didnt think I was bleeding badly ..however she didnt even come over to look either..all the people waiting were looking at us like what the heck.
finally after about 20 or so minutes they took me to ultra sound of all places ...they tech had to lterally go down to the ER and tell them how bad I was bleeding cause i told her they wouldnt take me in.
later when they were rushing me tro surgery the nurse came over to my SO and appologized profusly....she said Im sorry I didnt realize it was so bad ..he said ya well next time look at the person before you make your judgements on who is critical and who is not ...and he went on to call her the b word...but she deserved it...

Journey.....
that is teribble sorry you were treated that way.

Frightening. So frightening that parents could be ignored like that.

I wonder if they treat white middle class families with such contempt.

It is horrible. Ihave been in situations where lawsuits were threatened if action wasn't taken. Once, I was so ill I coudln't move. My ex, a rather large man with big booming voice, said if someone didn't see me immediately, he was calling his lawyer. We had been there 3 hours. I couldn't stand, I was bleeding very heavily, I was nauseaus, and I was dizzy. The next time was with ds. He had fallen and gashed his head. We were told to wait. Um, hello, 2 year old, with big gash in his head, bleeding. Another time, we watched a pretty little co-ed with a twisted ankle who came in two hours after us get treatment while dh writhed on the floor with a bleeding ulcer and throwing up blood.

I hate hospitals. I loathe ERs. I have never had good treatment in either place.

You're not the only one asking that question. See here

"...I confess that on Sunday that was me. We were one of three families left waiting for half an hour. I asked a doctor what was going on - and we got treated. We weren't rude; we didn't shout. But by speaking up, our baby got the attention he needed. My fear is that Zia and Nazmin Islam either did not know that that's the rule with public services - that the squeaky wheel gets oiled - or, worse, that they did know but that rule did not apply to them.

Put simply, the question Watford General has to answer is: if the Islams had been a white, middleclass family, would their baby have suffered the same fate?"

Honestly, I think if this was an American kid of any color it would have been treated better.

After the bombings, too.
I, also, think that if they had names like Diana, John, and Bobby, they would have been taken seriously.
