I know that most of you mamas have an issue with the DVDs (so do I, since, uh, DS doesn't watch much) but sometimes I like to play the CD in the background while we're playing in the living room...

Is there anything wrong with that? AND is thier a better alternative... something wtih REAL classical music?

"Real" music is always going to be better than synthesized intruments, because the texture of the sound is more complex and more real. Even better for an infant is the sound of the human voice, especially mama singing.

I think music is wonderful. I don't know much about the BE cd's but it sounds fine to me. I usually just take a bunch of cd's out of the library...all different types, & play them all. Dd likes some, loves some, hates some and MUCH better than tv.

Well, I have older children as well, so we get all kinds of kids music. My latest loans from our local library are cute, fun & energetic to dance around to: Putumayo Folk Playground and Sing Along with Putumayo, Ralph's World Happy Lemons and Jollity Farm.

I try to check out a few each month for home and car use. Laurie Berkners music is a hit here as well as Jazz for Kids. Abigail smiles & laughs at her mommys lack of dance abilities :LOL

BTW, Love the bubble suds picture. What a cutie pie!

What IS it that they use to make BE music? Some sort of glockenspiel-on-crack? Is it really a computer?

I love Mozart, and classical (and about every other kind of music). There are so many great Mozart CDs. To hand it to BE's creator, they did pick some of classical music's catchier tunes. I would write down which songs are on BE cds you have, and then look for music CDs that have those same songs. Too bad they're always called something like "Piano Concerto for two pianos in E flat major, No.10, K.365." Classical music might be more popular if the songs were called something like "Piano ROUNDUP!" and "Vinny the Violin shakes his Music-Maker!"

Sometimes you can even check CDs out from your local library to try it out first.
