My son is 6 weeks old, and he will fall asleep with his eyes open. His eyes are rolling all around as if he was in REM sleep... and he will smile and close his eyes open them back up! Its kind of weird, but people are trying to say it is completely normal...

How many of your babies do this?

THanks.

My second son did that. He's 1 now, and has been sleeping with his eyes closed for a while now. It's kinda creepy, but temporary.

my 7 mo still does that! sometimes she'll fall asleep with her eyes closed and then they'll slowly open.
the other night i came to bed and she was there, eyes and mouth partly open. scared the [email protected] out of me but she was fine. she smiles pretty often in her sleep too. it freaks out the babysitter.

Yep, normal! It weirded me out at first but then it turned into smiling in her sleep and laughing in her sleep, which is so adorable.

Yeah, my son gets what I call the 'shifty eyes' when he's falling asleep. He'll open them just a little and look from left to right over and over again. The first time he did it freaked me out, but now he smiles and frowns while doing it so I figure it's just a thing he does.

Mine does it, but now that you mention it, he has been doing it less lately. I guess he's growing out of it. It is weird at first though.

I think babies know how to meditate, and that's what they are doing when "sleeping with their eyes open". In a restful, clear-minded state, but awake.
