As I sit here I am watching snow/ice pellets pound down, swirl around in the wind, and it's cold. Really I'm just whining. I ran errands this morning that included buying a crib mattress, rest of my christmas cards, crazy santa hat wearing Sock Monkey wrapping paper for my daughters presents, and buying her a Nightmare Before Christmas ornament.

Now I am stuck inside my house and been reduced to washing all the diapers I've been stocking up on for lack of anything better to do.

Anyone else stuck in the first winter storm for the midwest??

Me! We are in central Iowa and have a nice sheet of ice out side. I actually made my first diaper this afternoon!! We mostly use pockets but I'll do a couple covers too. It isn't great but it is my first so I'm tryng to accept it and be proud! It is more of a med than a small so I defiantely have some work to do but I'll get there. Now I just need to do about another dozen or 2! (We didn't start cloth diapering dd until she was 5 months old so I don't have any smalls)

I'm in Eastern Iowa (SarahN, where are you?) and we are also mid-ice storm. Today was my baby shower, too!! People still came but it was scary! DH is at work and doesn't get off until late, which is also making me worry :.

That sounds quite lovely! But, I suppose if it's always like that the novelty would wear off. The crummy thing here is that it is cold and icy but no snow. DD really wants to build a snowman and asked all day because of the ice on the grass, so sad!

Had to drive home while it was sleeting and the roads were majorly icky. Not looking forward to getting the car out of the drive today to get to work. Wish I could just skip out on work, too bad we need the money...

That weather is still headed our way - 10-18 inches predicted tonight & tomorrow. Whoo-hoo!!! Looks like I'll get some x-country skiing in this winter, after all. I was worried that we wouldn't get real snow until I was too large to ski...now I just have to find someplace flat and open to ski - every time I go for a hike, I have to remind myself that back-country skiing is NOT an option!

All this said - winter up here is notoriously difficult to predict accurately...and we could just as easily end up with 2 inches...

Thankfully the weather was short lived. Yesterday it was rainy which just made all the snow/ice slushy. Yuck. But we did get out to do some Christmas shopping as planned. Not as much as I plan because husband was grumpy.

I'm looking out the window and it looks to me like we did indeed only get 2 inches, but the kids are still all home from school, oh joy. DD was hoping for a blizzard. This to me is perfect hibernating weather, but I don't think my DC's would be into that, looks like we are in for a day of in door activities!
Yay.

wow I've been complaining because it was 45 degrees here! I could never survive the kind of weather you guys have- I'd never leave the house and end up starving to death! oh I'm spoiled- we usually have one ice "storm" per year and all that really means is you have to be careful driving and some trees might fall!

Yeah this Saturday it did get pretty bad, but it was after 5 pm or so and we were already in. We didn't realize HOW bad untilthe next morning, though. I will take mounds of snow over that ice junk any day! Today we are getting a few inches of "lake effect" snow and more of that overnight. What a week for Mr Toona to have to go out of town, he was cute and requested that I make it snow by the time he gets back (he's dying for it - it's his first winter living in snow, rather than going to the snow). Guess I gotta do my own shoveling this week!
