<p>My little boy was born this morning at 30 weeks 6 days. He weighs 3lb 6.5oz and is 16" long. He is doing well right now in the NICU and we are in a wait and see mode to see how his labs come back and how he handles breathing. Right now he is on a CPAP and not a vent so that is very good news for him.</p>

<p>I had been having some bleeding (spotting) off and on over the past 2 weeks and it turns out my water had broken at some point in time. I'm guessing it broke because of the huge coughing fits I was having. I could tell I was leaking something, but I assumed it was my bladder since it usually happened when I coughed. Anyway, yesterday the contractions changed from painless to crampy and when I went in to be monitored in the afternoon, I was 2cm dialated. I also started having contractions about every 5 min on the monitor where they were previously 15 minutes or so (very irregular) apart. Terbutualine did temporarily stop the contractions and the decision was made to have me transfer to a larger hospital with a level III NICU immediately based on my history of fast births. I did end up with an epidural because I was on continuous monitoring due to the age of baby and also on an IV due to infection risks because of my water breaking so I didn't have any mobility. The epi did temporarily slow down my labor, but I was able to push him out in 2 contractions (5 pushes total) and I did not get pitocin for his birth. That is something at least. I'd say my labor started at 3am and he was born 9:30 am. I would guess that my labor would have been at least an hour shorter (if not more) if I hadn't gotten the epi and if I had been able labor in more favorable positions. </p>

<p>I've already started pumping and got a tiny bit of colostrum. Hopefully next time I will get at least a few cc's. I was also told there is a milk bank that we can choose to use until my milk comes in so we don't need to use formula. He is currently being fed by IV because he has a CPAP, but hopefully over the next few days they will give him a tube so he can have milk.</p>
