Hi- Now that my babe actually takes naps laying down I'm thinking about getting a baby monitor. I have some questions. Do they work through walls?? (New mom question!) I'd like to do some work in the garage while she naps. And possibly outside as well? What is the range? Or is outside not a good idea? She is a year old, and I would just need to hear her stirring. Right now when she naps, I do leave the room, but with the doors open. I assume that this would be a good purchase at this point, assuming she will continue to take naps for some time?

I'm going to miss this time of her napping on me (it's not over, but she does nap laying down every so often) but am not minding this transition.

Anyone have any favorites? Any ones to avoid because they're a waste of money? I want a good value, and would be bummed if I went with a cheap one that was a total waste!

We have a Fischer Price model. It came with two monitors and the one in babes room has a night light. It works really well, she is downstairs where bedrooms are and I am up usually...It almost works to well, her music plays while she is sleeping and the lights flash red when the music gets louder, which makes me think she is awake(i keep it turned low as I am in the same room with monitor) then I rush down the stairs and listen at the door and nope she isn't at all. So I am sure it would do great outside.

We have the summer video monitor and I love being able to see him to make sure he is okay rather than going in his room to check on him and possibly waking him up. Yes, it goes through walls. Only thing I wish it had was two bases so I could have one in two rooms.

i believe you can get an extra base for summers.

however my summer did not work in my house. the company said it might be the type of cordless phone I have or the type of insulation in my attic...or something else interfering. so be sure to buy it somewhere that you can return. i used amex points for mine and it is none returnable...wanna buy. ha ha.
