The full moon did it's trick on me I guess. Well actually I went in to labour on Monday but Reuben Sage was born on Wednesday morning. I'm not posting a long birth story but here's a few details:

Warning: Anyone worried about not getting their planned natural birth or who just don't want to read about birth trauma please skip.

It was an emergency section. I say emergency although 2 hours or so before it became a dire emergency we were questioning if that was the only way to go. So, I had a few minutes to think about it.

He's big and small He's only 7lbs 3oz but he is above average in height but I don't have the number yet. He looks exactly like Donnie in every way I've noticed so far. He's pretty thin. He's nursing well and my milk started coming in almost exactly 48 hours after he was born.

Other details, I laboured for about 24 hours before we had to go to the hospital, 12 of that hard. Transfer was for logicistical reasons - midwife problems so no second attending. My own midwife was not there but we couldn't have asked for better. I laboured another 12 hours hard at the hospital with increasing signs that something wasn't right, tried everything, eventually he became distressed after some chemical interventions, laboured 6 more hours with him in distress trying to keep his heart rate up long enough to get him out. I didn't dilate at all after the drugs and was only a 5, to small for manual turning (he was posterior) but big enough we could stim him internally to alliviate distress to keep him going. At some point that ended and we set up for a section, when I was prepped and ready and his heart was only beating with constant head "plucking" by my midiwfe, another labouring woman's baby "died" and they took her first obviously, when scrubbing for her, Reuben's heart stopped and we got it going but not above 40 bpm, that's when surgeon cut out the other baby, pulled on new gloves and cut out Reuben. And he was a BOY! So much for knowing the gender before hand.

I'm recovering well, he's nursing a lot, sleeping a bit and I think he's pretty cute

I was thinking about you this week and wondering if you were off having a baby! I am so sorry that Reuben's birth was so hard on you AND him Very scary! I'm relieved, though, that in the end you have a beautiful baby boy to nurse and hold.

I skipped reading since I'm "gestating in peace" but it sounds like you need some hugs and a lot of .
