and it drives me nutz! She also likes to suck on the veeeery tip of the nipple, while pushing on the boob with both hands. Another thing she does is suck suck suck, and push off w/ both hands. OWWWWW!!!! Does anyone else experience this kind of nurser? Or am I just the lucky one?

You're not alone! My babe does this as well. It's really obnoxious. I try to nurse her coming in, or going out of sleep whenever I possibly can to minimize this. It works well at night, but now she stays awake most of the day.

It gives me sore nipples when she does the 'pop off' and 'rip breast out of mouth with hands' thing, and then I can't tell if she has a good latch or not! Very frustrating!

Try nursing with a receiving blanket over you and babe, to see if s/he's easily distractable.

But that's about all I can reccomend - if anyone else has suggestions I think we could both use them.

My ds does the pulling off thing too and I think it's soo cute!!! It hurts, but after he does it his head bounces back and he falls asleep on my boob - it's like he's so happy and satisfied - with milk dripping from his mouth. I wish I could get it on video.

Actually, my baby is almost 10 months right now, so I don't think the receiving blanket thing would work. I think she does it sometimes just because she can. And sometimes, just because I'm not paying full attention. But she does the scrathing and pinching thing nearly all the time. I've had scabs on my boobs before, but not as much now, cause I don't let her scratch me. I usually say loudly OUCH, but I feel bad cause she doesn't understand all the time.

NAK while being boob abused

Have you tried 'Nursing Beads'? I can't remember which site I saw them advertised on ...but, essentially, they're a buncha multicoloured, non-toxic beads of different sizes, shapes and textures that are double knotted on to an extra long loop, so babe can reach. You could even make your own! I have a nursing shirt that opened from the side (so the rest of the boob was mostly covered) that had ties with beads attached. IT would distract DS long enuf for a feeding, usually.

The worst was when he'd be 'midsuck' and something would take his attention. It's quite amazing how much a girl's nipple can stretch! Yowza!

Good luck mama!

My youngest is like this- some things that work for us

putting his hands together so that he can feel and pinch them, so that his hands are clasped together on one side of my breast

giving him something small to play with- a quarter, a die, a rubber band- that he couldn't usually play with, but wans't going to choke on while he was nursing. If I saw something I thought he would like I would just put it in my pocket until the next time we nursed.

asking for flat or still hands, sometimes even with my hand pressing on top to really keep them still

I agree with the nursing beads!! They work so well!! http://www.slingtastic.ca/beaded.htm Heres a site that has some, if you type in nursing beads you will find plenty of sites.

Ive given Benjamin a small toy to play with like his big brothers hot wheels car or he will toy with my scapular I wear.

If this fails you can tell her firmly NO or OUCH and stop nursing, if she tries to nurse again and does this again then repeat your action... she will soon learn )

HTH's and good luck!! *From the mom whose baby thinks her 'nursies' is a doggie toy to latch onto and shake vigorously! YOUCH*

Thanks Tahra!

Yes, I make and sell them, it is how I can afford to stay at home with Konur. Mine are all hand made and I use only plastic brightly colored beads. I have animal shapes, too. My website is in my sig line, too. Just let me know if you have an questions.
